lofreq: im interested to know also, about 10.1 performance and your thoughts... have had an awesome run with SH but im getting tired of the blue rom - i love darky's green, and in reading 10.1 it looks like alot of things have been refined and improved since i left.

also long overdue to format my entire phone and bring it back to stock as i have been restoring apps and junk that ive had since early froyo

intending to run darky's 10.1 + the GTO overclocked JVH kernel and see if i can make the phone levitate... ;p

I switched to Darky's 10.1 last night, like you I had run SH 3.2; 3.3 & 3.5 and was ready for a change. Darky was the first custom rom I tried, didn't have a great experience but that was probably my fault, then changed to Doc, then SH now back to Darky, must say I am pretty happy with it to date.

Just flashed 10.1 (wipe) straight over SH 3.5.

Overall there is probably not much between SH & Darky, but like the Darky colour scheme. Don't think the functionality / performance is all that different, but nice to have a change of scenery.

I am running 10.1 with Dark Core 2.4 - which is basically the Darkyy package.

Thought I would give TW launcher a crack too, it's OK, but finding it too restructive after Go Launcher & Launcher Pro....don't like the fact you can't change the dock settings / apps.

Does the Dark Core kernel have anything special like voodoo sound or sharpness fixes?

Thinks it's got voodoo sound v8 and chainfire's sharpness too. Looks much nicer than Damiens IMO.

I'm using the BUJV3 modem from JV9. At the moment I'm getting -87dBm on 2g and -95dBm on 3g. Both show up as 3 out of 4 bars.

Cool I'm using the same modem and it shows full bars with -89dBm for me at home. Pretty much the best signal I ever get for 3g is -85dBm. I've now gone back to using JuiceDefender after my failed experiment of not using it anymore. My battery is usually ~30% by 11pm these days with between 2.5 and 3hrs of screen usage browsing the web mainly.

ok so today was hangover day so what better than to sit on the couch and flash the phone. decided to give darky's a try and this time wipe everything - so backed up my crap then formatted the lot, wiped internal storage, reset all to factory, disabled lagfixes, flashed the darky 10.1 resurrection ODIN clean base, then darky's full 10.1 on the top - tested it with dark core kernel for a bit which seemed fine, about 1400-1600 quadrant, but was hooked on the smoothness of the o/c kernel PLUS damianGTO had upgraded his JVH kernel to stable RC1 version so bang that went on as well, scores immediately above 2000 now, excellent.

ahhhh the beautiful greeens of darky theme, how ive missed it. all i need now is a prettier dialer and ill be happy :D

simplified my homescreen with a photo off desert rd, and got an app (CPU Spy) that monitors your CPU speed states, pretty cool:

There's an app called Android System Info that can show the time spent at each clock speed as well as all of the running tasks in the background, ram used, sd card used, space that each app takes up and a bunch more. I would use Damian's kernel but his oversharpness makes text look hideous. Fugukernel Ultra makes the interface very smooth but does not get high benchmark scores.

I read that gingerbread (2.3.4) has started to show up again in Kies for some people in the UK on samsunggalaxysforums, if you have a parallel imported phone which is an unbranded SGS on froyo would Kies ever offer firmware updates? I don't really expect it to, but it would be much easier than flashing a custom ROM with Odin.

I'm kinda tempted to give Juwe's or Darkys ROMs a go, and may end up doing that anyway but it'd be interesting to try samsungs vanilla gingerbread too.

Just as I start thinking how great Darkys 10.1 is and really starting to get into changing how the phone looks, the mysterious 2.3.3 android OS battery hog bug rears its head!

The battery dropped drastically without any use, looking at stats - Android OS was chuging away... After a reboot (the only known way to cure it?) the phone settled down. Has anyone else noticed/experienced this? I don't think I noticed it at all on SH3.5. Overnight with wifi off battery dropped only 1%.

I bought an el cheapo phone holder of dealextreme which arrived yesterday, thoroughly impressed with the GPS performance in the car with BUJV3 - without wifi/data network I had a satelite lock within 5 seconds and it showed 10/10 with 5m accuracy in about 8 seconds!

hey i love your lockscreen setup - switchpro and simi clock etc are lovely and nice touch on the colour matching, its so hard to do with those fiddly sliders

i didnt like widgetlocker in the end because everytime i woke the thing it would flash my normal honmescreen then flash the widgetloicker screen over the top..... it was distracting and i eventually gave up and relied on normal lockscreens... dumb but u know.

but yeah i moved to darky 10.1 and, 2 things. my android OS crept up to 13-15% (used to be 8%) but this was not as high as the 40-60% reported in forums..... secondly, my stupid email app is constantly waking the phone and draining the battery even with all radios off! quick search revealed same problems for others - apparently if u have an account loaded with SSL enabled (basically any exchange account etc) it stuffs itself up - never lets the phone sleep

oh man i was mad!!! i reflashed my nexusS email apk, didnt get it working, finally had to use the JVH converted SGSII email app again, after reflashing, clearing data and resetting up the thing a hundred times i managed to get it to work, and last night it went back to 2% loss overnight...... thank christ!!!!! the SGSII email app is slower than the nexus version, but prettier... so whatever, im just glad the phone can actually SLEEP now properly.

did all this on the latest damianGTO RC1 kernel... i dont have the oversharpening issues lokhor mentioned so it looks good to me...

is your problem only the android OS process - or have u noticed your email app keeping the phone awake too??

Hey guys,

Epic thread. After Flashing my to 2.2 I found my phone was going through the battery insanely fast 5 hours from 100% to 0 with minimal use. I'm talking 1 call a few text messages and winamp playing for 30minutes.

So after trying to Flash it again I managed to semi brick the phone. Phone--!---computer. I don't have access to a soldering iron etc so I have gone and got a usb jig off ebay. My only problem is I'm over trying to get this phone to run properly with the software that should have updated in the first place so when I get the jig I plan to return it back to 2.1 i9000t like it was straight out of the box. Can anyone please point me in the direction the firmware/ upload

I would be very thankful really sucks being without the phone cause I'm hooked.

It sounds strange, and not sure if it's just darky rom or all gingerbread, but if you are getting hi drain on Android OS then cycle the flight mode on and off 3 time, it sounds strange but it works.

tanivula: It looks like your wifi is draining a lot. Might be due to a weak wifi signal and the phone struggling to stay connected. (just looking at your signal strength in the screenshot)

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

Jacob, take the battery out of your phone for 2 minutes, then put it back in. Hold the volume down button in, also the home button and power button in. Try it several times until you got to download mode.

Hey Brendan.

Cheers for your help. I forgot to mention It won't go into download mode. Tried volume down,up,center - This is what led me to order a jig.

I'll try it again though with the battery out for a few mins.

Appreciate the help!
