I had the same problem myself, it took several tries to get it, timing has to be perfect.

Epic thread. After Flashing my to 2.2 I found my phone was going through the battery insanely fast 5 hours from 100% to 0 with minimal use. I'm talking 1 call a few text messages and winamp playing for 30minutes.

So after trying to Flash it again I managed to semi brick the phone. Phone--!---computer. I don't have access to a soldering iron etc so I have gone and got a usb jig off ebay. My only problem is I'm over trying to get this phone to run properly with the software that should have updated in the first place so when I get the jig I plan to return it back to 2.1 i9000t like it was straight out of the box. Can anyone please point me in the direction the firmware/ upload

I would be very thankful really sucks being without the phone cause I'm hooked.

i did the same thing after a couple of failed flashes, Odin 1.3 no longer recognised the phone but amazingly switching to odin 1.7 worked. theres a1.83 version out as well i think

have you tried to get into download mode using a newwer odin? at that point i would recommend flashing something like Darky's 9.5 ressurection which is a ODIN rom thats already cleaned of bloatware, optimised, but barebones, so no junk added on top - gives you a good kernel and CWM recovery, rooted etc, IE the essentials. 2.2.1 is a faultless experience on these phones, gingerbread is not there yet.

i really dont think going to 2.1 is entirely necessary

hey i love your lockscreen setup - switchpro and simi clock etc are lovely and nice touch on the colour matching, its so hard to do with those fiddly sliders

i didnt like widgetlocker in the end because everytime i woke the thing it would flash my normal honmescreen then flash the widgetloicker screen over the top..... it was distracting and i eventually gave up and relied on normal lockscreens... dumb but u know.

Thanks, yep took a bit of work with the sliders and what not but I think it looks real purrty now. TBH it's only after I saw your homescreen with switchpro that I really got the itch!

It's funny you mention that about widgetlocker. I was having the same 'issue' with the homescreen flashing before the widgetlocker one, but now it seems to not do that anymore. Can't remember when it stopped, perhaps after disabling the widgetlocker icon from the notification bar? Perhaps it has been ironed out a bit since you last tried it (I'm running 2.1.0)?

but yeah i moved to darky 10.1 and, 2 things. my android OS crept up to 13-15% (used to be 8%) but this was not as high as the 40-60% reported in forums..... secondly, my stupid email app is constantly waking the phone and draining the battery even with all radios off! quick search revealed same problems for others - apparently if u have an account loaded with SSL enabled (basically any exchange account etc) it stuffs itself up - never lets the phone sleep

oh man i was mad!!! i reflashed my nexusS email apk, didnt get it working, finally had to use the JVH converted SGSII email app again, after reflashing, clearing data and resetting up the thing a hundred times i managed to get it to work, and last night it went back to 2% loss overnight...... thank christ!!!!! the SGSII email app is slower than the nexus version, but prettier... so whatever, im just glad the phone can actually SLEEP now properly.

did all this on the latest damianGTO RC1 kernel... i dont have the oversharpening issues lokhor mentioned so it looks good to me...

is your problem only the android OS process - or have u noticed your email app keeping the phone awake too??

Like you I prefer the faster Nexus email client and have noticed that the email app has on occasions caused the phone to not sleep eating battery as it does - it's strange as I had set the auto sync in the email app to never (manual sync) but it would still try...? So tried disabling autosync/background data in android as well as turning wifi/data off - not conclusive but last night it worked a charm. Will keep an eye on it but may have to go with the SGS2 app.

sittingduckz: It sounds strange, and not sure if it's just darky rom or all gingerbread, but if you are getting hi drain on Android OS then cycle the flight mode on and off 3 time, it sounds strange but it works.

tanivula: It looks like your wifi is draining a lot. Might be due to a weak wifi signal and the phone struggling to stay connected. (just looking at your signal strength in the screenshot)

Just did a google search and I'm sure it's a ginger problem going by all the complaints about it! Hmm will try the flight mode trick and see what happens. Found a thread on XDA which said the software update app is the gremlin causing the high use and to delete the data from the manage apps area.

As for wifi, yeah the second period of wifi usage is at work where the signal isn't as strong as at home. Should turn wifi off when the phone's just sitting there next to me I guess.

Back when I used Widget Locker I also used No Lock to disable the default lock screen. Now I just use a puzzle unlock as that allows for opening texts right away and has music controls.

Regarding mail clients I only use Gmail so don't even know if the default client works.

As for the Android OS Process bug there have been many threads but the most simple explanation is that some Samsung applications cause it. Using Titanium Backup (paid) I froze Email 2.3.3, Mobile tracker 1.0, Mobile tracker settings 1.0, MTP Application 1.0, Samsung account 1.0, Samsung Apps 2.5.032, Software update 1.5.0. Some people also recommend freezing wssyncmlpns. Some Gameloft games also cause it after they are closed so you need to reboot.

I am looking forward to a 2.3.4 release as that fixes the problem.

it has been ages since i tried widgetlocker - my experiences were from like january this year. maybe its changed! might give it another shot now -thanks for the tip

same as you, i had all email updates set to never, and it would still wake the phone and... do something?? despite wifi, 3g, autosync and background data all off. see how you go, technically this makes no sense because the nexus email client worked fine without drain on SimplyHoney 3.5. who knows what darky has fiddled with in his version. it SEEMS to be ok now overnight from last night using the SGSII app, but my "android system" usage is still moderate at 13% and getting higher. what the hell is it doing i have no idea.

Hmm Simply Honey 3.6 is just around the corner so a change might be sooner than later! Yep, totally understand the overfiddling sensation....

Wifi is set to never turn off - I use VoIP/SIP (via CSipSimple not the inbuilt one or SIPdroid) over wifi a fair bit so like to keep it enabled. Wifi battery drain wasn't a big issue when I was on Damiens kernels + SH3.3 (it used to be on all the time! and still manage over 48hrs).

on another note - can someone tell me the correct default folder names and locations to store Music, Ringtones, and Notification sounds, such that music appears in the music app, notifications and ringtones appear when choosing either?

i formatted my internal storage and now dont know where i shouldbe puutting things. i know i had my music in a folder i made myself but the music app never picked up those files....

Just started running Darkys 10.1 on my new SGS flashed it within an hour of getting it outa the box :D runs pretty fast, no bloatware is a bonus.

My directorys work like this (external SD)

Audio on the root with Notifications and Ringtones directory inside that with them inside.

Music on the root with all Mp3s inside.

none of mine seem to clash/show up in each others lists.

Bugger looks like it might need the jig.
Have tried multiple times to get it into download mode and have also tried Odin 1.3,1.7 & 1.8 But no success in picking up the phone :/

Atleast if all else fails the jig should be here in a week or so.

Just flashed to ZSJV5 2.3.3, stock Asian ROM with SpeedMod K15G-T11-300Hz kernel.

Couple of questions please:

GB is suppose to improve battery life or better battery management, is JuiceDefender still necessary?

Can I still flash to the Vodafone BUJP5 modem on GB? Although so far having seen any issues on the JV5 modem, so not in a hurry to change.

Juice defender and things like Task Killers etc were never necessary from froyo - unless you are a really heavy user in a poor signal area. otherwise for the most part the processes it uses in memory turning your radios on and off can be more detrimental than you just toggling it yourself. all in all i believe it is "unnecessary" unless you find you are only getting 10hours use from your phone stock

and yes you can safely flash froyo modems over your GB roms, without drama - also yes, new modems does not automatically mean greater performance - they might not be best suited to the network strength here in nz, or your area, so you will have to test them out and monitor your signal strength using a widget and see how it performs

I'm not as brave as you lot when I get a $600 toy so not too keen to go flashing out of official/warranty/spec yet :P

But out of interest I got a generic model from DSE au when I was there some weeks ago. Unlocked out of box with the following FWs:

PDA I9000DTJP5
PH: I9000DTJP3
CSC: I9000XSAJP4

Indicates an asian parallel import like DSE nz had some time ago? Bonus was its a late packaged model with Froyo out of the box.

Have that queer Simtoolkit icon bug that most VFNZ guys report but meh.

Nice toy so far. Just a shame the more you play with it the flatter the battery gets over a 12hr period :) I miss my 4 days between charging and 4hr cell calls. But get toys in exchange for it!
