shreyas: Has anyone used the Belkin Micro USB Car Charger with their Desire? Does it even work?

I am contemplating getting one from Trademe, they have it on DailyDeals for $26 (incl shipping) today.

I'd appreciate feedback from anyone who has used it.

I bought one from Ascent but sent it back as it didnt fit the lighter socket in my Hilux and may not fit other Toyotas and possibly other models. The problem is that the end doesnt taper and therefore doesnt go in properly.

Ambrose_1: Anyone have trouble with APN? I never seem to get a HSPA connection when I am in a building, for example at Wellington Airport at the international arrival gates I could not get one, Surely I should be able to? I have checked all the settings with the ones on wireless.vodafone.co.nz and they are correct, and I can get a connection at work where it is a bit more open, but i have wifi there anyway.

Do you get HSDPA anywhere?

Are your settings same as page 3 of this thread?

I've had similar problems occasionally. Most of the time it works perfectly fine but I think about twice now I just haven't been able to connect to any mobile network. The other day I checked the apn settings and a couple of the entries had 'apnandroid' added onto the end of them which I removed and it worked again. I have no idea what changed my settings, I thought it might have had something to do with the widget I was using to toggle my mobile connection.

I'm still tinkering to see if I can get it working perfectly but for the most part it's great.

Hmm, okay thanks. I think I'll hold off getting one right now then.

Dont get me wrong, it may fit your car, and it does do 1Amp which is great. I would ask whoever you get it from, does it fit (insert your car make model) and if it doesnt send it back.

Yeah I do, usually at places I have a wifi connection so its not in use. The settings I had were slightly different from what was on page 3, I had live.vodafone.net.nz instead of www.vodafone.net.nz so will have to see if that is better. I do have juice defender installed but even if I disable it it does make a difference when I'm having trouble.

Works a treat. Used regularly in a Toyota Camry and Holden Astra

Posted about this the other day - reposting to see if anyone has any ideas.

My Desire works fine with my Vodafone SIM, but will not get a signal with my 2degrees SIM. The 2degrees SIM works fine in my old phone.

Have talked at length with 2degrees (they were incredibly helpful) and come to the conclusion that the phone must be simlocked.

In a moment of desperation, I spent $20US on an unlock site. They've also been surprisingly helpful, but say phone should come up with an unlock screen when I put the 2degree SIM in, where I'll be able to enter the code they've given me.

I don't get this screen.

I've emailed the retailer (EKing) to try and get them to at least tell me which network the phone might be locked to.

I've now successfully rooted the phone and installed a custom ROM (Pays), but this makes no difference to the 2degrees SIM.

Anybody have any clues?

Have you tried another 2Degrees SIM? My 2Degrees SIM worked fine during testing in my Desire.

Same here, I tried it to see if SIM checker pro was working and it seemed to come up ok.

You'd be better off importing one from overseas like the rest of us here :) Who knows how long it will take Vodafone to release it...

Thanks BigHammer and kiwitrc.

Haven't had a chance to try another 2degrees SIM yet, I will do so at some point.

Although, like I say, the SIM works fine in my old SonyEricsson.
