2.3.4 update done.

Because of the re-partition needed with this firmware, fully charged the battery, wiped caches and factory re-set and such before flashing. Odin flash process was quick and painless. Rooted with Chainfire's mod and reinstalled apps with TB. Left the data as I'd had issues with restoring app data in the past.

It's smooth, touchscreen sensitivity is back to pre-JVH levels and is a delight to use. I see new system icons and some other visual improvements.

Too early to give a full verdict on performance, but wiping emails, something that used to take between 3 and 5 seconds, is now around a second.

So it's like having a new phone. Once again, it's a vanilla experience with only the rooted kernel as a hack.

kenairport: HI guys,

I'm using 2.2.1 atm. Downgraded from a 2.3.3 because of the android os process bug that drains off my battery. Has anyone of you flashed 2.3.4 yet? If so, is the android os process bug still exisiting in the rom?

Apparently its fix, im waiting for darkys custom build cause the JVP release has a few things missing.

A note or two about JVP performance:

GPS - Averages 9.2 seconds to lock in the office. JVH averaged around 13 seconds
WiFi - Back to best case of -65 as opposed to -70 for JVH
JVP Quadrant reports 1345, JVH reported 955

No lag fix, no GPS fix and wifi as it came.

VF APN info installed automagically - no manual intervention required.

Wifi and GPS results seem to validate my belief that JVH was flawed in its handling of certain radios. Meantime, I'm a happy camper again.

Glad to hear how well a vanilla install is working. I'm waiting for some good themes to come out and might just flash a deodexed stock rom and theme it instead of using a custom rom.

Likewise - I suspect the stock ROM with Hardcore's 2.3.4-based kernel will be pretty good; I just hate all the clutter of stock ROM's. . . . .Ah well, will hopefully have my SGS2 in a few days . . . .

Have flashed Speedmod K15H-T6 and gone back to the BUJP5 modem too - signal strength on the newer modems is more aggresive than it needs to be IMO, so just chews more battery.

Can someone confirm whether new GB bootloaders are necessary for flashing to JVP from JVH/JVO?

I installed the CWM version of deodexed JVP firmware posted on XDA, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=948790. I was previously on Juwe 4.3.1. Though did run into a issue when I tried to do a factory reset, was prompted for a password on reboot, solved it as per my earlier post.

Got tired of my over a month old JVB flash and have been itching to get a newer ROM. With 2.3.4 out thought this would be an ideal time. So flashed the deodexed JVP firmware as linked above.

AND WOW! I mean for a stock ROM this is FAST! Way smoother than my Simple Honey 3.3 JVB install. Used CF-Root and am now restoring apps via TB. Might flash Speedmod soon.

I hope this fixes the Android OS Process bug as this has been plaguing me on 2.3.3 all this time.

Battery usage on mine as follows:

Android System - 7%
Android OS = 6%
wifi - 3%
Display - 71%

12hrs - 13mins - 43 secs of battery since charge. Battery currently at 58% remaining. Been using it a lot today, restoring apps, testing wifi, data and GPS, sending test pxts, txts and emails. I expect it'll be down to around 50% by the morning, so by the time it's done 24 hours, I expect it to be closer to 45% remaining.

Not quite 2.2.3 standard but it's only day one so I should see 40 hours-ish on a charge. No sign of outrageous system battery drain here.

So far I'm very happy. Really glad I moved on from JVH.

I'm going to run my battery to zero, do a full charge then full drain and see if that does anything for battery duration.

Looking forward to hearing about your update. Caveat - Full wipe install will be required so back up the usual suspects like SMS and /efs.

Probably not in the spirit of the forum, but my flatmate has a case for his iPhone 4 (boooo) that has a sleeve which can hold credit cards etc

Has anyone come across one of these for the Galaxy S? Spent ages googling and haven't been able to find anything. Is there any website that is a definitive source for Galaxy S covers? Cheers

Wouldn't the antenna radiation be likely to wipe the card data from the magnetic strip on the cards? Shouldn't affect the embedded chip, but not all cards have chips. Now I think about it, must look that up.

Edit: A quick scope of the interwebs says 'possible' but highly unlikely to affect ATM cards or credit cards. There's simply insufficient magnetic effect from the radiation to damage the strongly encoded data on the strip. Reprogrammable cards such as loyalty cards and gift cards, hotel keys and such are more likely to be affected. Again, according to the massed wisdom of the web, probability is low.

So, in other words, ignore my question above. :D

@lukei1 check out ebay. They have that type of arrangement for the SGSII. Out and about right now our I would look and provide a link. The ones I've seen are leather, our look alikes.

Have any of you guys tried out a custom JVP Rom? I see Faryab has released one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058814

It sounds like it has custom lockscreens, crt screen off, overscroll glow and all the other fancy stuff. I really want a google talk with working video chat using the ffc and so far have been disappointed.
