MattEast: Good excuse to upgrade, the second gen Pixel might be around by then

I hope. I am one of those who has upgraded to every new Nexus model but I decided not to go from my 6P to a Pixel (1st gen).

Just to add to the general chorus: I've been experiencing early shutdown issues around 25% but I finally had enough when it shutoff at 45%. I called Fonefix to confirm it's covered under warranty, then brought it into Fonefix Greenlane last Saturday afternoon. It's apparently ready for pickup now (Monday afternoon). I have to say that it was a pleasant experience!

I held off upgrading my Nexus 6 but recently PB Tech had a sale and were selling the Nexus 6P for $599 and I decided to get one.

I doubt I will ever get to Pixel as they are just crazy price.

I have never had any problems with Nexus and the 6P is working well. Only hassle was that being a year old it was still on Android 6 which as soon as I turned it on it wanted to upgrade to Android 7 then 7.01 then 7.1 then a couple of monthly updates. For some reason even though I back up my 6.o with Google backup I could not transfer apps and settings to 6P, so once the phone had finished OS upgrades I sat down and re-installed all my apps.

All sweet now.

Took the phone into 2degrees store. Was sent away and returned 3 days later with replaced main board. No bootloops so far. Impressed with the quick turnaround.

Pleased to hear it's a relatively painless process!

I've finally reached the tipping point, as my battery is giving up the ghost at around 35%, and the phone is noticeably more janky than previously.

Will take it to 2D in wellington and send it away for a mainboard and/or battery :D

Wow, glad I read this thread. In the last 3-4 weeks my 6P has been shutting down from as high as 45% battery. Was going to try and replace it myself but will do this now. I bought mine through the Geekzone offer with 2degrees so glad I didn't buy off the google store. Just got to bring myself to being phoneless for 5 days, eek.....

It only took FoneFix 1 business day, so you should survive!

HOWEVER... do turn it on when you get it back and check the auto-rotate function. I just discovered that my accelerometer is not working. Have tried starting in safe mode... no joy. Will be taking it back to Fonefix tomorrow.

I took mine to 2Degrees and they (hopefully) have sent it to Fonefix.

When I get it back I can lend a Galaxy SIII to other Christchurch Geekzoners in the same predicament.

I am surprised how well it goes with LineageOS 14.1 (Android 7.1.2)

I did another factory reset myself (as part of getting ready for Fonefix) and the accelerometer is working again. I'll be keeping a very close eye on it though, in case it plays up again just before the 2 year mark.

No they did not. They just mentioned that they replaced the screen and the battery on the receipt, not exact part numbers.

I asked them if the battery was a different model and got this reply....

"We replaced the LCD assembly with battery and rear deco under warranty and it’s a genuine Huawei LCD and Battery."
