Yep it's definitely NZ firmware, as @sidders80 mentioned it has been used before. The Updato site lists it as NZ also.

Defaults to English NZ on first boot, the Samsung Internet default shortcuts are all NZ ones. Herald, Stuff, Trade Me etc.

No sign of any carrier stuff either. I'm quite happy with this, along with the same version for XSA it is the newest firmware available for the S8. Looks like it has the correct fast dormancy settings for Spark which XSA seems to lack.

Keep us posted about performance, battery life, etc. Mine is a 2d version which i use on Vodafone so keen to try this one.

Well, wife surprised me with an S8+ last night. I must say this is a seriously seriously sexy piece of kit. Holding it in store with those retarded cables sticking out of it does it a huge injustice. Feels so sleek in the hand, the screen is absolutely beautiful.

I got a loan s7 while mine is away, the s7 has a nice screen but i really do miss my s8 (Just got a text yesterday saying it had turned up at the repair place):(

On the other hand however my Urbane 2nd edition LTE watch turned up yesterday so I am currently playing with that :)

I got a case for it, through an ad I saw on Facebook. It's one from here: https://kase.com/

The ad was for the case for $0.01, and $9.99 shipping.. so paid $10 (USD) for it.

I doubt it would offer much in the way of shock or drop protection, but for a case that will protect it from everyday wear and tear, and not add any bulk to the feel, it's perfect.

Looking at the phone lying on the desk, you'd hardly even think it has a case on it.

This is one instance where a Facebook ad worked for me :)

Well, I was very concerned when Samsung said they were doing away with the button, but I have to say, the pressure sensitive button for home is outstanding. Everything I could have hoped for, and with extra screen real estate I feel it's a win win.

I never lost faith in Samsung, even over their Note stuff, but with the Galaxy Tab S3, and S8, I believe the future looks bright.

So mine has come back from "repair" where they just flashed the firmware. Just finished setting it up again and what do you know, the camera is still doing it.

When I picked it up I looked at what they did on the paper work and said "so what happens if it happens again because I did this 3 weeks ago and it still did it afterwards" was then told "oh we have to send it away again because we have a 90 day warranty with the place we send it too"

I think I am going to have to yell tomorrow for a swap out with a new s8

I'd say you're entitled to under the CGA by now.

I'd say you're entitled to under the CGA by now.

Oh we had a nice disagreement in store in front of other staff and customers on what will happen next. Ended up with me saying "well lets hope I don't see you in a day or 2" I totally knew I would be. It's like the 6th or 7th time re-setting up the phone now, each time taking a couple of hours to get it all logged in etc.

I might have to use my big boy voice tomorrow.

I got mine back yesterday. In for a microphone failure. Fault confirmed, replaced the charging port board, reflashed the firmware. All good so far but they did have to take the back off to fix it. Was hoping they would just replace the whole phone but I guess this was a simple and economic repair.
I restored the Smart Switch (PC) backup I made before taking it in for repair. Still left a lot to be configured to get it back to how it was. I was kind of hoping it would be close to a Nandroid backup but was nowhere near. If Samsung really want to compete on this front they still have a way to go.

Since they pulled it apart, I hope it's still waterproof.

After a few quick emails and a call from spark.

I will have a new s8 replacement ready for me to pickup tomorrow, just need to take my currently s8 and everything that came with it back.

This makes me happy. Just not looking forward to another setup tomorrow.

How do you intend to set it up? Perhaps you could prevail upon them to allow you to use Smart Switch (phone to phone, maybe using USB cable) in the store before you depart with the new one.

It do use the cloud sync setup that samsung has which works with most stuff (takes about 60 minutes for it to install everything etc). But I use nova launcher (can restore home screens etc from a backup). It's things like android wear, bluetooth to my speakers, headphones and car. Music downloads, logging in to everything, security app setups, home lights setup etc, secure folder and work setup. The service desk at work is getting sick of me and resetting of my security tokens.
