Hi ArtooDetoo seeing as your using stock jvp can you tell me how you find your GPS ? (when not connected to wifi) how long does it take to lock on to a signal.

Im having a few issues with mine and wondering if i should reflash down to jvp.

Average is around 10 seconds if I remember correctly. Certainly less than 12 seconds. It was better on JPY but there was only a couple of seconds in it. Got it on test now so will add the average of 10 starts to this post before submitting it.

OK, test complete. 10.7 seconds inside my home. (Too cold to go wait outside)

Been out of the game for about a month and hate to see myself left behind in the neverending pursuit of ROM smoothness on SGS.

I'm itching to flash. Can someone please give a quick update on what is currently the smoothest and most stable combination? I'm currently on Doc V10.ZSJPJ / JPP / speedmod-k13d-500Hz.

(Thinking about it I don't quite remember all the nuances of flashing. But that can be sorted with a couple of late night xda sessions :) )

Best stable base rom is JVP which is Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread so very very fast and quite stable.

newest rom is JVQ which has a new browser with fancy animations and smoother scrolling. It has issues with Deodexed (custom, themed) roms though there appears to be a fix I'm unsure how well it works.

Where did you get the rom from ? i just downloaded jvp from samfirmware (twice) and once unzipped the files are all md5 files rather than the normal Tar files...

They'll work fine. Just load them in the appropriate slots in Odin and enjoy.

Sorry but theres no way that 2.3.4 is the most stable base rom!

you would be better to flash JVH or even something from 2.2, first day on 2.3.4 i had force closes when people ringing me, the phone would take over 2 minutes to "wake up" when trying to unlock it :(

went back to 2.3.3

RE Gps, i used to use GPSaids etc, i then found this thread..

i downloaded the relevant gps.conf and everything went fine after that, i even uninstalled GPSaids.

I did the whole wipe thing prior to the Flash, and left data behind when restoring apps.

The result is one very slick GB powered SGS.

Make sure you use stock JVQ unless the custom roms have fixed the browser. Also be aware that it can suffer from a deep sleep issue.

JPY has been a standout for me, being the longest running ROM I've used. Radios, GPS and battery were exemplary. But GB does more, speeds up a lot of stuff including the UI, and is such a nice experience that I've chosen to forgo the advantages that JPY delivered.

Persevere with JVP (or JVQ if you prefer) and you'll enjoy the rewards.

And don't, whatever you do, restore app data. That has caused me much grief in the past. Not saying that everybody will experience grief if they do restore data, but I surely can't recommend the practice.

I can confirm the deep sleep issue. I have had happen twice, the only way to wake up the phone is to pull out the battery. Running stock firmware (JVQ) with Chainfire kernel.

Wow tried this as a last attempt to avoid re flashing for the 5 time, and it works ~ so far only tested at work but ill take it for a spin tonight and see how it goes.

I really like JVQ it was just the gps issue,
