Just a quick question about DarkyRom. Wanting to flash the latest 10.2 version but I am currently on a stock JVQ rom with SpeedMod and lagfixes enabled. Do I need to be on Dark Core before flashing to 10.2 or can I just flash from my current setup and not worry about flashing a Ficeto base rom and going from there?

Not much really. It is quite fast and stable and is working fine. I just prefer being on a custom ROM and Darky's just looks real tempting atm.

Thats a relief. I've had trouble with deodexed 2.3.4 roms (comma bug) so I'm looking at stock JVQ as a fix.
99% sure you can flash if you have a kernel that supports Lagfix, may want to ask over in the darky thread though? http://www.darkyrom.com/community/index.php?threads/v10-2-final-what-are-you-waiting-for.4253/page-30

Ok so flashed it straight from my current config. Got stuck on the bootscreen, but it had managed to flash DarkCore kernel. So just went back into the recovery menu and just flashed from there. Installed fine I believe. Seems pretty fast :)
Awesome, yep its pretty fast eh, i tried 2 other 2.3.4 (jvq) builds but i had problems with the phone not waking from lock, and other i was getting FC's on alot of the apps, good to see they built it from scratch and its going great guns.

Hmm I have got one FC so far, in the contacts app but hopefully won't get anymore. Otherwise seems like a solid build. I think I will stick with this ROM until something bigger and better comes along.
pixelateted: Just wanted to post a quick thank you, have moved my Telecom SGS from stock std 2.1 to Darkies. It all ran smoothly thanks to all the helpful comments here especially lofreq's awesome guide on page 354.

it seemed to be a fresh take on JVQ with some trick tweaks and a nice theme. i actually tried Juwes latest but didnt like what i ended up with, so reverted to this Blockbuster one and im quite impressed so far. ive even stuck with the included "Galaxian" kernel, and underclocked back to 1000mhz stock, but just set the governer to OnDemand instead of conservative - and shes really responsive now (2200-2300 quadrant, this gets to about 2600 when clocked to 1200mhz but i reset to stock 1000mhz in the interests of battery life)
I felt that Darky's 10.1, whilst stable, was pretty clunky and cluttered. is the speed in this 10.2 really that dramatic?
Have been running with Juwe since 3.8. It's been great to me. ran darky before that all the way to 9.6. have now gone from juwe 5.2 jvq to darky 10.2 final jvq and darky is way way more responsive even though it's only at 100mhz and juwe ran at 1.2ghz. quadrant score is less, but that isnt relavent i dont think because this is definitely quicker with darky. definitely recommend that all try it
Wow, I tried Darkys 10.2 rom today, this is the first Darky rom I have tried as I have always use doc roms. I have to say that this is the fastest feeling rom I have ever used, it has made my phone what I think it should operate like. Obviously time will tell, but so far its miles off anything else I have used before.

Great to see others are experiencing what I am with this ROM. My first ever custom ROM on my SGS was Darky's and it was pretty good. Then moved over to the Doc ROMS and they were fantastic for Froyo.
Since Gingerbread came out I have been experimenting with other ROMS and then my past two flashes have just been deodexed stock GB ROMS. But now seems Darky is back with probably the best Gingerbread ROM I have used on my SGS. So smooth and fast. The default ext4 lagfix definitely has something to do with it.
If you are still looking for a smooth and stable ROM, give this a try. I am sure you will not be disappointed. :D
all this talk convinced me to jump back to Darky's world. i used the 10.2 resurrection build to wip my phone and then put 10.2 full versoin over the top of it - still using the stock darkcore kernel etc and it seems good - batttery drain on idle does seem to be a bit heavy but i might swap the kernel out for damianGTO's perhaps - but indeed it seems quite polished and snappy
ive tested it and data does seem to register faster on speedtest than UGKC1, im getting about 1.3mbps down in my apartment on KC1 and about 2mbps down on JW2.
signal strength is very strong at around -67dB, i used to get about -78dB in the same place.
GPS seems unaffected, and cant comment on battery yet but i will report back after testing it for a couple of days.
so if you want to test against UGKC1 then here you go. remember to enable 850mhz in your service menu: *#2263# and then set WCDMA only and enable the 850 band
