So I changed my plan to the $39 open term plan to get more data and got a new 4G sim this morning but despite being in an area with good 4G coverage (according to the Telecom website) I can't seem to connect to 4G. Has anyone else had a problem connecting? Is there something I need to do to enable 4G on the Nexus 5?

I don't think it's gorilla glass. From googling, it seems it can be easily scratched. maybe buy a protective film and cut it out to fit the lens - though it will also affect the picture quality.

Lord almighty, that lens is sure all kinds of f***ed up !! And the pics were only blurry abit.
But my question is.......would it matter the size of the sensor ? Since that was a DSLR lens/sensor and thus the sensor is too big to notice anything ?
The nexus 5 (or any phone's) sensor is much smaller no ?

Yeah, but you're not very likely to get anything other than micro scratches on the lens cover which aren't likely to show up. If you do major damage you'd probably damage the rest of the back too & it'd be easier to just replace the back. The plastic lip around the edge will protect it while on any flat surfaces.

I'm upgrading from a Galaxy Nexus which is pretty much spot on 2 years old. I really loved the shape of the GNex - it was always easy to tell which way up it was in my pocket by feel - not so with the N5. Still it's a vast improvement and I love the boot time compared to the GNex.

Boot time sure is impressive. I upgraded from the previous generation - Nexus 4.
The only downside i'v come across so far is that I find the home screen/apps screen icons to be a tad big for my liking and the text size. I'v changed the text size to small which does help.
The sound is heaps better too, you can put the phone on the table without the sound getting blocked.
nathan: Google Now, any ideas why it works on my US bought Nexus 7 but says "not available" on a NZ bought N5?
Google now should work anywhere in the world.
Though some features won't.
Like the sound search "ok google....what's this song" ....it'll say "not available in your country" ...but it'll have a blue music note sign next to it that you can press...and it'll actually listen for the song.
