seriously: I bought a 50mb 2degrees data pack, I can go onto the internet now I loaded up a youtube video so the internet is working but when I tried setting my gmail account up with the app store it came up with unreliable internet / you may not have data plan enabled.

This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care.

Keep getting this message, when I have 3G enabled, while being on the uni network right now, currently in full bar reception yet I can't connect to the android market (says this when trying to sign into my gmail email account).

Any help?

It looks like this bug where it will always do this if you don't have a data connection set up the first time you enter the Market app/register your Google account. There are various solutions (e.g. hard reset) but they are a pain to do.

Damager: I may finally ditch my Touch Pro2 and the Galaxy S looks the goods. How's everyone coping with resolving the GPS issue?

Totally fine now, I think my fiddling around with the SUPL settings did more harm than good, a factory reset and Brut Maps installed and it's near perfect again :) Has my exact address now and only once in a 50km drive over the weekend did it think I was driving in the water, before quickly correcting it

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

If you want to make your galaxy go like a rocket use this fix.
Basically puts a ext2 filesystem on top of samsungs filesystem in the internal memory.
turns out if was just samsungs crap use of the internal storage that was slowing everything down to a crawl.

Im getting quadrant scores of about 2,300 now (compared to about 1700 on ext4 sdcard fix).
Normal galaxy s with no fixes gets about 800-900...

It flies... smooth as a iphone 4 now :)

A real shame that these guys beat samsung to fixing it but im happy!, works with stock rom too.

GPS Update:

It still sucks. We now at least know that is has a broadcom 4751 chip in it which is of course better than the iphones and is considered one of the best out there.

Someone from broadcom has said there is a a definitely driver issue.
Samsung have said a fix is on the way... but might not be ready until after froyo.
Vodafone UK have also confirmed a GPS fix is on the way.

So no idea how these people are saying they have great GPS when the chip vendor plus the phone vendor have said there are issues..but perahps its just under some circumstances.. as some people seem dead certain their phone is accurate..

Mine can be sometimes but other times it has me tracking through peoples houses etc...
My nexus can pinpoint me inside my house almost to the room, my galaxy s has me over the other side of the road and jumps around randomly on maps..... shrug :)

I wish I had read your comment earlier, spent most of the day pissing around with the phone, finally did a factory reset on it under the 'privacy' tab and since I only have texts/contacts to lose I didn't lose much at all.

Thanks for the help, I actually came here to post how I had fixed it and to let others know. Spent the last tutorial I was in playing with it and looking through apps on my 3G (I see it is now using that as opposed to it not being used before) also, stupid Uni doesn't let us access app store as everything has to go through their student proxy...anyone know how to route the app store through that proxy?

Also, for 2degrees is there anyway to get my contacts off of my sim?? They aren't showing at the only SIM contact is *100# ...

I had a look at the post on Modaco where this was put up. I'm not a total novice but I don't follow how this is done. Not sure what "First copy the two files in the attached .zip to the root of your internal memory then run the following commands after enabling debugging mode. Make sure you have the latest busybox installed" means.

Would be grateful if Kilack or someone could put up a detailed 'how to' or tutorial. i.e. I don't understand what "the root of internal memory" and "run the following commands" mean and what is debugging mode. And what is busybox?

You might say 'if you don't understand all this then don't do it' - maybe that's right but I would be keen to do it if I had detailed instructions. If it still looks complex to me then I may wait until Samsung bring it out - but who knows when that will be.

Looks promising, saw it on XDA, will definitely look at this once its been bedded down for a few days, as experience in the forums seems to suggest that all these fixes and firmware upgrades have an initial benefit just from rebooting the phone, and the lag often doens't show up until a bit later. Would be interested in hearing your opinion in a day or two.

I will try and put up a real simple guide tonight.
root of the internal memory in this case is just the internal sdcard (not the external one)
You need a rooted phone
Once it is rooted you can use the busybox installer from market.

Someone has been running it for a week already, said nothing changed.
Certainly I'll let you know though as it involved no flashing etc I thought why not, easy to revert back.

You need to have adb working and for the phone to be in debugging mode. To do this follow the ADB FAQ here. This also covers busybox etc.

Looking at the scripts, by "the root of the internal memory" they actually mean /sdcard, which is the root of the internal SD card.

Just applied the one click lagfix from XDA - wow. Transforms the device, seriously wonderful stuff. My quadrant benchmark went from 844 to 2099.

Yeah it's rocket fast now...

There's now an update.zip file floating around in the thread somewhere so you don't even need a terminal!

I used the same tweak last night, looking good so far.

TBH I call BS on the file system causing premature cell failure. There are 3 places this is typically prevented:

- Memory controller
- Lower level OS driver
- File system

The moviNAND incorporates an MMC card controller which takes care of wear levelling.
