NZtechfreak: You guys should be on Sliding Messaging instead of stock anyways, rich notifications FTW!

/me scampers off to try it.

I generally don't like non stock basic apps after issues with duplicate text messages and emails getting corrupted and not syncing properly in the past.

Nope I don't like it :(

It has a setting for overiding the system one, and you can choose in the system one for it to not given notifications for new messages.

Samsung's awful implementation of the 4.2 lockscreen.

Worst feature I have seen on a smartphone I can recall. It's really terrible.

joker97: i have a problem with the lock screen.

if an sms comes thru is there any way to touch it and straightaway open the sms app?

at the moment you touch it, a BLANK box comes up, you ahve to swipe it away and the sms app opens ...

what's with the BLANK BOX???

i have disabled "widgets" under "lock screen"

Drag down the notification bar and open from there

Anyone having problems with an SD card in their S4?

My partner has had her S4 for only a few days and it was working fine, storing photos and video on the SD card. But today it came up with a message saying "SD Card Unexpectedly Removed" and now the phone doesn't seem to recognise that there's an SD card plugged into it.

We've tried removing and reinserting the card a couple of times but still the phone doesn't recognise it (under the Storage option in Settings it says "Mount SD Card" in a greyed out font). We turned the phone off each time we tried this.

If we plug the SD card into a PC then we can see all of the files on it.

The SD card wasn't formatted by the phone, the guy that sold us the phone just pulled a new SD card off the shelf, opened the packing and inserted the SD card and it worked fine until today. It was purchased from First Mobile in Albany.

Does it sound like a faulty card or faulty phone?

Heh I have JUST been through this with my 64GB Sandisk. I couldn't make it work and in the end Sandisk replaced it and under warranty. However I am seeing a few of these posts, and I am wondering if it's possible the S4 is killing them. I took mine right from my S3.

Still using my 64gb sandisk I got from you networkn and it's still going fine from the S3 and now the S4. When I got it, I used the provided adapter to add about 30gbs of music on the pc. I use the sd card for pics and videos also. No problems!.. Hope it stays that way!

I tried one more time to remove and reinsert the SD card and this time the S4 recognised it.  So I thought I'd do a format of the card in the phone.

If it fails again then I'll take the whole lot back to where we bought it from and ask them to fix it.

I'm not sure what brand of card it is as the salesman removed it from the packaging when he inserted it for us and so we didn't get the packaging.  I know it wasn't a Sandick, maybe a Lexar?  The PC adapter looks like the Lexar one here.

So now that Google is releasing an S4 with a vanilla android experience what does this mean for us?

Will stock android roms be more forthcoming for us? Will we be able to do a direct rom swap? I don't think we will because of base band differences but will it be a simple case of keeping our current modem files and just flashing the stock android rom over the top?

Exciting times.

Interesting times alright. Unless I've missed it though we don't know specifically which hardware the Google Edition is running on, so porting may not be quite as straightforward as we might like.

Word on xda that i'm hearing is that it's going to be the S600 version. Of course it's pretty much all hearsay until official confirmation from goog/sammy
