bryceknz: Sorry if this has been addressed earlier in the thread... Just received my N5 this morning (cleared straight through customs, wooh!). Before I'd done anything apart from setting the language and WiFi connection, it asked me to download+install a system update! Did everyone else get this on first boot or did it just come out today?

What the ? you must not have posted the correct value for the goods long. How come you didn't get pinged ?

No update here for the international version I got from WSL, I did see comments re an update for users of the USA-only version tho.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Ugh this is strange.

So I've just completed a purchase on Amazon for a Ringke slim case.

I entered the shipping and billing address as per youshop.

Entered my visa debit details ...and it asked me if i want to complete my purchase in NZD ($9) or other currency , so i just picked nzd.

I clicked submit...and it says order received and preparing for shipment.

So I checked my anz account...and there's a visa hold for $ 1.73  ..........what the ?

The description is : "We’ve started preparing your shipment. This process can take some time but does not change the delivery date. We'll send you an e-mail when your order has shipped. You can still request cancellation if you’ve changed your mind."

Does this mean my visa debit has been approved or not ? it doesn't say approved anywhere.

Probably all on track. I've had the occasional small, random amount temporarily charged to my card during a transaction. I think it's just a "ping" to make sure the real transaction will go through - the card not having been reported stolen or being totally out of funds in the case of a debit card, etc.

Overreaction , my bad. It had just gone through.

Like you said, it's like a verification cost.

I think that customs only do a certain percentage of items coming through (can't verify this) Last year I had my N4 come straight through with a posted value of $349 however this year my N5 is 'held for clearance'

If you do declare the item above the limit, it should get pinged 100%. Not too sure how he got it through, very lucky indeed.

However, any items that are not declared, the screening rate is approx 10%.

Just got a rel to buy me one in Aus which is going to be about AUD$419 including shipping and GST. He's bringing it over with him.

I am on 2D now but I think I am going to jump ship to VF since what's having a LTE phone if you can't use it :-)

Too bad my son is going to lose Internet on his phone since he uses my shared data :-(

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

I am still contemplating buying a N5. I lost my phone the other week so I don’t have the luxury of time unfortunately. I would prefer a 32gb to the 16gb but if I bought it from the US or Aus then I would be waiting weeks and I kinda need a phone now (I feel so naked and vulnerable without a phone :p). Can someone please tell me how much available space they have on their 16gb? If it’s a reasonable amount of space then I will just go out and buy one.

should be just under 12gb free on an up to date phone just with the google apps installed/updated.  Done by looking at storage and quick and dirty estimation of installed apps size.

Phone arrived this morning! So nice. Really happy. Bit strange getting used to no buttons on the front but will be ok in a few days. Only issues is that case and nano sim adaptor hasn't arrived yet! So only using it on wifi so far.
