Latham: I was definitely thinking of placing a pre order for this.

I am hoping I could rope my friend in Boston into purchasing it for me then I just wire him the money, and he ships it direct to you shop.

Import tax is going to be a huge hit on the overall price. When I calculated it it said about $180nzd, raising the overall price to about $1000 nzd. His hurts my heart a little bit, but I feel like once I sell my iPad, iPod, and phone, it'll only be about $450.

Not sure how you arrived at your $1,000, but Amazon just gave me a NZ$590.75 price for the 32GB shipped to NZ. Add GST, that's around $680 landed. I didn't order, as want to see some reviews first, but happy with that price.

Latham: Where did you get that stellar deal? I'm killing for nexus but that price is pretty unbeatable

Pricespy, was from BecexTech I think they're called.
There were cheaper but they were the 900f model that doesn't have the 700mhz LTE

Cheers

Although happy to buy, on reflection the 32GB at $680 is around $80 more than the newly announced ipad air 2 which is 64GB to boot! Hard to believe that a Nexus device will land more expensive than a bigger capacity ipad! How times have changed.

Where did you see this? Are you referring to the nexus 6 or 9?

I just went to amazon.com put the Nexus 9 in my cart. As I already have a NZ$ credit card loaded with Amazon, I was given a NZ$ price including delivery.

It's still only through the US play store unfortunately. It sold out in minutes, so you'd be hard pressed to get one. They were still selling more occasionally throughout the day, but they probably stopped that.

Thanks for the info, I'm really keen to get the Nexus 6 but have no idea how to get it since the play store says it's not available for new zealand.

So do I. Gonna have to wait unfortunately. Otherwise if you have friends in the US they can buy it for you and send it over when they re release.

You need to buy it in a country where it's sold - Google Play store has never supported NZ for phones.

Argh same story again, just like nexus 5.

By the time N6 comes to NZ, most likely through 2degrees, we'll have to pay a ridiculous amount.

I really hope we get Playstore becomes available here in NZ.

So jealous of Australia!

Come on, guys, don't hate on 2d and friends for selling the Nexus 5 at standard smartphone pricing - if Google doesn't subsidise the device in any given market, the OEM and network vendor still have to make money. Google has something to gain by selling the hardware at cost or below, 2d and LG et al do not. It's not a rip-off because Google uses it as a loss-leader in other markets, that's just warping people's perception of what these devices actually cost to build, ship, market, sell, and support.

That said, the Motorola-built Nexus 6 does not appear to be subsidised by Google anywhere near to the extent of the Nexus 4, 5, and two 7s, given it is $650US unlocked. I would not expect there to be the same kind of gap in price between Google Play hardware markets vs. non-Google markets when the Nexus 6 hits locally as there has been with the past two models.
