Just reading up on the release of the Nexus 6 and 9 as well as the revelation of android L being officially 'Lollipop' and Android 5.0.
Bit disappointed that the storage on both devices is limited to 32GB. But interesting that Google have specified a 4:3 aspect ratio on the tablet. Does that mean they believe Apple were right all along?
The N6 looks reasonably impressive specs wise, but the quoted price will be north of $900 by the time it's landed here. For that I would rather have a Note 4.
More reading to do, but I like the way this was announced. No stages, no turtlenecks, no dancing girls or models (Samsung and HTC take note), just " this is what we have ".

I recognize there will probably be individual threads for owners of these devices. Just wanted to get the ball rolling to get reaction to what has been announced. Seems pretty positive to me, and as a long time HTC fan I wonder whether it may signal a return to tablets for that company. Their last foray was hardly auspicious.

I think that with those announced prices it's the kiss of death for the Nexus phone brand..   Tablet is a different story..

Nexus 9. iLike. Only disappointment no SD slot (though not unexpected. This looks like a beautiful piece of kit. Perfect size - I have been waiting for the perfect 8" tablet to replace my Xperia Z tablet (which has been great, but I want the smaller form factor). Highly spec'ed. And it will be running Android L. I only wish google would make it easy for me to purchase locally through Play!

I did as well. But it is a high specced phablet not a development phone. It kind of moves it out of the bracket where you buy it just to have a bit of a play with the latest version of android.

The other exciting news is that Lollipop will be available OTA for existing Nexus users in "coming weeks".

According to many sources both are being offered in 64gb capacities.

I'm interested in both devices as a phablet guy on the phone front, and very curious about the 64-bit K1 in the N9. Nvidia went with an in-order compiling architecture on the 64-bit K1, will be extremely interesting to see whether they have succeeded where others failed in implementing that. If it delivers more CPU power in 2-cores than the current 32-bit K1 does in 4 then it should be a beast for Gamecube emulation, which would totally sell it for me.

Re lollipop ... should I hold my breath?

Isn't newer always better? ;-)

Lollypop is supposed to be less hardware intensive, brings ART off the bat and will require more standardisation of apps won't it?

Must revisit the articles I read, they definitely only talked about 16 and 32 GB versions, and in fact google itself only indicates that in the N9 link provided by @dafman. 64 would be much better particularly for the N9.

Lollipop brings the ART runtime by default. In fact, I think it kills Dalvik dead.  I've been using ART in the last couple of days and, with the exception of two apps (Google Music detection widget and the csipsimple codec pack), everything else is fully compatible with it.

This is a good thing.  ART is faster, uses less battery and less memory.  For that reason alone I'd be looking for Lollipop.

Motorola's own specs say it's available in a 64GB edition too.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Gimme that Nexus 6.

From Google:
“In all, Nexus 6 will come to 28 countries across Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America starting later this year and as we head into Q1.”

Chances of NZ being one of those 28?

So just to clarify.

Nexus 6 -> 32 & 64GB
Nexus 9 -> 16 & 32GB

Why does any OEM persist with 16GB????

Tablet, not phablet. It's only the N9 that is 4:3 so you would need a very big pocket indeed!

They really need 32gb to be minimum for tablets. I wouldnt mind the lack of SD card if the capacities were higher (64gb is a good size to have for tablets).

Regarding nexus 6.. Erm.. Too big for a phone.. They should have capped it off at 5 inches

That 6 is a beast... too beastly for me - looks like I'll be upgrading my N5 with a Z3.
