I think you'll find a few things missing from the A500 that are supposed to be part of the stock Honeycomb.

I got a reply from Acer support yesterday and they confirmed that the Honeycomb Video Studio Editor and the 3D coverflow for the music player are supposed to be there, but couldn't give me an answer as to why they were not included. I'm still waiting for a reply regarding the missing Exchange support.

For what ever reason, Acer have left them out when making a build for the A500.

Hi Mark,

It's cool that we have a rep from Acer to answer our questions:)

Can the mods confirm Boomtown74 as a rep from Acer?

wellygary:
vinnieg: Also Tory Street(and the website) has now upped the price to 899/999...which IMO is too much

JB HiFi's latest flyer has the 16GB for $797

Yay for competition :)  that's an awesome price, wonder if Harveys will match + 5%, only one way to find out!

@Mark, good to know, good to have you on board!

Saw the 32GB in JB today for $949, didn't see the 16GB but assume it was there as it is on their site and flier.

Once I get a new flatmate and get the other half of the bond, I am going shopping.

Does anyone know what the screen is like. I have an Ipad for movies and reading ebooks and the screen is good. A little while back I bought an Archos 101 to try to replace Ipad but the screen is horrible. No where near as sharp and when you tilt it off center even slightly it is not viewable and absolutely terrible to try and read on. Is this one as good as the Ipad screen

The Archos doesn't have an IPS screen. Having owned the Archos I can say that the Acer has a much better screen. The Archos was ok as long as you were on exactly the right angle. That meant some compromises when holding it.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Playtech Selling 16GB for $779 and 32GB for $919. Which means JB Hi Fi would almost certainly match that as Playtech are a very reputable store.
Best price ive seen from a good trustworthy outlet

Do they match including postage? Often the postage from online retailers in NZ is quite steep.
A couple of places recently wanted $12 postage for an SD card.

Playtech have had a very long running deal of free postage NZ wide on orders over $79, therefore both the 16 and 32GB models are free postage
http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=631/ID=15925/SID=1011331940/productdetails.html

Also Playtech are not just an online retailer, they have a store in Mairangi Bay Auckland.

P.S i do not work for or have any affiliation with playtech but have had very good dealings with them in the past.

freitasm: The screen is very responsive. A couple of applications I tried keep crashing though - including a simple finger painting app I've downloaded for Bella to try.

But there are two things that made me think "No, please!"...

1.No exchange account support. You go to create a new email account and you see "Gmail" and "Other". The "Other" is POP3 and IMAP only... So corporate folks either have to go with a third party app, or nothing.

2.Charging. Seriously folks... I am going to give this away later, so I always keep the cables nice and neat inside the box. I plugged my USB wall charger... And nothing happened. Looking around I then realise it uses its own proprietary connector for charging, and the USB is just for file transfer. That's wrong!

Hi, just a quick feedback on your second point, the USB 1.x and 2.0 ports provide 5 volts/500mA output which from my understanding is not enough to "power up" Nvidia Tegra2 chipset. All Tegra2 chip set tablets require extra chargers. (Acer Iconia / Xoom / Dell Streak / ASUS Transformer) Similar to notebooks, notebooks will not charge via USB ports.

I'm wondering if it can be charged by USB3.0 port?
