I am struggling to decide between s4 and One.

I have read reviews after reviews, youtubes after youtubes and I am still uncertain which one to go for. Most seems to suggest One as the "One". s4 is kinda dull and boring as not much change compared to s3. TelecomTech reviewer(s)! Please write more reviews!

I own both. I think the One is AMAZING, but it's pretty unlikely that I'll end up with the One at the end of the day, removable storage and Samsungs updates are faster and leaked more often than HTC. The square nature of the casing whilst it looks nice, isn't as comfortable. It's heavier and that bothers me a little as well though if you had nothing to compare it to you wouldn't really notice it.

The polish of the HTC is better unquestionably, software and hardware, but I think the Samsung is more technically advanced.

If you are in Auckland, you are welcome to come by and play with both side by side.

I am not sure if both have locked bootloaders, but I'd guess the rom community would be more active for Samsung, and that is a huge factor for me.

After about a day or two you won't notice it.

There is a custom kernel that allows you to wake the phone by swiping the HTC logo.

Oh my. I just got e-Wood.

Also the kernel disables the menu soft button and enables the logo as a menu button.

If tempted to do it. Just read my post about the unlocking the bootloader issue.

Need to backup the /data/preload folder via adb before doing it.

This unexplained delay is all a bit odd.

Is this 'secret squirrel' behaviour from Telecom normal practise? It sure aint no way to run a railroad.

I cannot believe it's a hardware/software issue that has 'just' sprung up at Telecoms end out of the blue. Thats bollocks. I'd be willing to bet that intead there are commercial reasons for this delay.

And, if it were only supply snags out of HTC then a statement as to when shipments would be flowing could be expected to have been made well before this. I mean it's not as though the plane delivering the only shipment has crashed in the pacific or that the HTC dog has eaten their One lunch etc.

I wonder if its a contractural issue between Telecom and HTC. I wonder if existing contractural agreements with another prominent android player are putting the commercial squeeze on them. Bloody lawyers- shoot'em all!.

I guess it ain't no thing to wait a few more days but after a 21 year mobile marriage with Telecom, sweating it out through the CDMA years and putting up with the XT establishment blues I'm beginning to wonder if there might not soon be a very large red Vf in my future.

(Q.  How can you tell if a lawyer is lying:         A. His lips are moving.)

Gave up on Telecom and bought one from JB HiFi today. They retail at $1099 but offered it for $949 provided you sign up for a $45 plan for one month - which I was already on so no problem there.

The display model in store (st lukes) has a clear gap at the top as others have reported, but I just pulled mine out of the box and am happy to report there's no gap at all. Phew.

If you've watched any unboxing vids you'll see its like opening an Apple product... very nice.

There's still plenty of stock there and they do that Q card 12 month interest free thingo too. Talk to the (srilankan?) dude called James about the discount with one month plan ;) (No I have no affiliation with them but am just happy to have the phone and good service after frustration with delays!)

Now to see about this camera... the only feature I haven't been too sure on...

Good luck with that but I doubt it.

Although, it is not a bad idea to try.

Well this is a bit of a mess isn't it.

I have two on order at Noel Leeming, Tauranga. No idea when they will come in.

So this $45 plan you speak of. Is it the one on the VF website which gives a $100 discount on a One when you sign up to a $45/month plan for 2 years ? Less a JB discount of $50 to make the price $949. The way your post reads it sounds like you only have to sign up for $45/month deal for one month. (or is that the point)

Separately;
Why does PBTech even bother putting the phone specs for the One on the site if they are too lazy to remove the Bands/Frequencies that don't apply to the handset they are selling (obviously just cut & pasted from an international site)? Makes it really difficult to see if their parallel import will actually work where you want it to.
