wlfkfgkwlaktka: Argh same story again, just like nexus 5.

By the time N6 comes to NZ, most likely through 2degrees, we'll have to pay a ridiculous amount.

I really hope we get Playstore becomes available here in NZ.

So jealous of Australia!

When do parallel import stores start getting it?

They'll charge the same price as 2Degrees does or more..
Wonder who in Google we can start to complain to about access to the Play store??  They seem quite happy to take NZ advertizing money  but not the plebes cash for hardware..

NikT: Come on, guys, don't hate on 2d and friends for selling the Nexus 5 at standard smartphone pricing - if Google doesn't subsidise the device in any given market, the OEM and network vendor still have to make money. Google has something to gain by selling the hardware at cost or below, 2d and LG et al do not. It's not a rip-off because Google uses it as a loss-leader in other markets, that's just warping people's perception of what these devices actually cost to build, ship, market, sell, and support.

That said, the Motorola-built Nexus 6 does not appear to be subsidised by Google anywhere near to the extent of the Nexus 4, 5, and two 7s, given it is $650US unlocked. I would not expect there to be the same kind of gap in price between Google Play hardware markets vs. non-Google markets when the Nexus 6 hits locally as there has been with the past two models.

I suspect that this high price has been dictated by the US carrier using the carrot of a $199 subsidized phone  to the masses who always buy subsidized phones.   They don't want their  model undercut if they are selling the same phone..

What do you predict the price to be? Somewhere around the 1k mark? Also, do you know roughly how long it takes 2 degrees to even stock the phone?

I haven't read that review yet but read another which compared the new moto X as more favourable

Battery life tanks, screen isn't that great, camera is fairly average.

Basically, the phone doesn't justify the price tag

Ahh what a shame..Google havent really hit a home run with this nexus 6.. the Nexus 5 still seems to be a better deal. What a shame. If only they took the Moto X 2014, tinkered with a bit (not as much to create the Nex6) -> that would have given a good Nexus.

I think the Moto X 2014 is a better Nexus 6 than the Nexus 6!!

Haven't found anything yet but I see Harvey Norman are clearing the old moto X at $477 so fingers crossed it is a sign of things to come!

http://www.anandtech.com/show/8687/the-nexus-6-review

What am I missing - doesn't seem like a fail to me...

From that very review:

"Overall, I think that Google and Motorola have built a solid device. It isn't without its issues, but there's a lot to like, even if you're someone who has never used a phablet before. I had always been somewhat of a skeptic regarding massive phones; I didn't understand the appeal. But after using one, I can see how having a massive display to view all your content can be really beneficial by enabling forms of productivity that simply can't be done comfortably on smaller devices, and by making activities like viewing photos and watching videos significantly more engrossing."

That doesn't sound like a fail to me...

Further to that:

"Not only did it change my mind about the appeal of phablets, it also changed my mind about Google's ability to compete in the premium device segment of the market. The Nexus 6 holds its own against all the other high end devices that we've seen released this year, although the Galaxy Note 4 with its more phablet oriented software features and hardware advantages might be a better device overall. But those who want a large device and value having software support directly from Google won't be disappointed by the Nexus 6."

Now, maybe it's just me, but that sort of sounds like the OPPOSITE of a fail...

My new Nexus 9 jus got an update, probably alongside all the other Nexi getting the new sweet.
But ever attempt at install leads to an fallen over droid with a sad error. Anyone else getting this before I factory wipe it?

Thanks
Damian

Numbers mean jack-s**t when it comes to phones these days.
Read the Verge review too... once they get over a phablet, it's better than most.

I have just installed the factory images of Lollipop onto my Nexus 7 and Nexus 5.
Overall it seems great but I have a few problems:-

TomTom installs but crashes every time on both devices.

"Trusted face" only seems to work sometimes (on both devices)

Downloaded ringtones will play and can be set as default but then incoming calls use the phones original default. This is really annoying as there are only 14 ringtones standard and none of them appeal.
I have tried mp3's and ogg's but the same thing keeps happening.

Has anyone else here tried?

Rob
