Just looking at some US sites on the Nexus 6P. The 32gig model there sells for US$499 = NZ$ 785 + GST = $818. That's a lot different from the $1099 quoted in press releases here. Good old kiwi tax again..

So how do you know if your normal cell sites run on band 3/7 or 28?? I'm on 2degrees btw.

Around cities etc it is mainly 3/7 bands, 28 is longer range so more out in the country etc.

You will be fine using it on 2 degrees as 2g/3g etc is covered by the phone.

You don't usually. Some phones you can get into network diags and it'll tell you what LTE band you're connected to (I know this is possible on my Nexus 6)
You can probably also figure it out if you've got a coverage map. But even then with overlapping you can't know for sure.

How is it confusing? If the phone can't support the band, it'll act as if it can't support that band. i.e try and connect on other freqenices if available. If you happened to be in an area that ONLY had LTE700 coverage, you'd get no signal.

Yes good old kiwi tax again, but remember that kiwi tax is to cover things like the CGA and we are also a very small country by head count, that drives up the prices.

But we're not talking about that situation. We're talking about what we know, which is that the phone doesn't support VFNZ's Band 28. I don't disagree it will cause a lot of confusion, it will. But given that WE in this discussion know it doesn't support it, I can't what's confusing about it.

$785 + GST (15%) is $902.75. Not sure where you got $818 from

No mention in the NZ Google Store about the Nexus Protect insurance option. Having killed my Nexus 5 screen early in it's life, then ditching the phone as it was too expensive to repair ...hopefully the newly announced insurance scheme will reach these shores.

That's because they moved from getting a high quality device at a low cost to a lot of people - to delivering what they consider the flagship android experience.

Just remember, it's our falling exchange rate that is increasing the price - nothing to do with Google.

Google have held their release price for the 5X very close to the 2013 Nexus 5 release, ie:

Nexus 5. 2013. Launch price = $349

Nexus 5X. 2015. Launch price = $379

They haven't moved from high quality at a low cost. It's still there and it's called the Nexus 5X which has lauched very close in price to the Nexus 5.

And credit to Google, they have gone one step further with this release and given punters the option of a higher end flagship device as well. The best of both worlds.

I guess you will never please all of the punters all of the time (-;
