I read somewhere the phone detects the SIM card to determine what firmware to send out, after having issues with no updates when I first go the phone after trying to setup the phone before the SIM card had been installed. My guess in the future they could use this mechanism to regionalise the firmware e.g. Amazon Echo auto installed for the US market.

My wife is with 2 Degrees she got it the other day.

So I bit the bullet and bought this thing yesterday.

Holy hell, what a phone. Seriously impressed. Battery life, coming from the G4, is out of this world.

I was considering the Pro, but fancied the 5.9in over the 5.5.

Funny - IPS LCD is one of the chief reasons I enjoy the Mate 9. laughing Not keen on OLEDs anymore personally. Bring on MicroLED without the inherent burn-out.

FWIW, a 1440p OLED isn't that much higher res than a 1080p RGB LCD (of the same size) because the high-res OLEDs all use the PenTile subpixel matrix.

It's just those deep dark inky blacks. I can't ignore them. Plus the higher res IS noticeable on text with web pages.

No anywhere oveseas that I might get it from?

I can accept that price. Is that the model that will work with our 4G bands?

The spec sheet on the link gives a list of LTE networks supported.  Band 3 (1800) and band 28 (700) are both supported..
