Hi all,

FYI... just performed a manual 'Software Update Check' on my Telecom HTC Sensation running Stock ROM and an OTA security update was available 44MB. Downloaded & took about 5 - 10 mins to complete the install. Not sure what it addresses yet...

Before Update...
Android version = 2.3.3
HTC Sense version = 3.0
Software number = 1.34.781.2

After Update...
Android version = 2.3.4
HTC Sense version = 3.0
Software number = 1.45.781.3

Found the below information... Note; the software version is higher in the update then below.

Android version = 2.3.4 software number = 1.45.531.1
The new features of the update will include Software stability and Improved battery life. Other key benefits and improvements include:

Improvements to Trace dictionary
Improvements to screen responsiveness
Improvements to video playback
Improvements regarding device reboot / power off
Improvements to icon pixilation
Improvements to Wi-Fi connection
Improvements to screen/photo resolution

I think the Android Market app does a automatic update afterwards as well as my antivirus popped up with 'app clean' and now the market place looks more like it does on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

Is there a way to get a copy using the Android SDK without CWM installed? My Fiancee's Sensation is S-ON and has this update.

ahhh you can probably do a system dump... if you have adb setup on your PC

Can someone sum up whats better than the SGS2 here, im torn between the 2, i can get the sensation $100 cheaper that ths SGS2, im torn :(

Depends if you like Sense or not really, SGS2 you CANT have Sense but Sensation you can have both AOSP and Sense, Sensation has a better build quality by miles but the SGS2 looks cooler in my opinion (Ive had both) SGS2 probably has a better camera when both phones are stock standard, but Sensation is catching up with new mods getting up to 60fps recording nearly.

Sensation battery life is better from my experience with both.. I would like another SGS2 but i wouldnt give up my Sensation for it ;)

Thanks for the link. I'll definitely be installing the Radio, which can be found at the Sensation XDA Forum Radio Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178143 (It's at the bottom of the first post)

It will be interesting to see just how much difference it makes to the one I'm using now 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M

(Maybe a direct post might work)

I have both a Sensation and an SGSII at the moment so I guess I can pretty accurately comment regarding this:

Sensation
The Good

Feels better in hand than SGS2 due to build materials and thickness
Screen doesn't look as nice, but is higher res (qHD) so you can fit more on with the text remaining sharp
Quality custom roms that improve the speed and functionality
Sense UI is very, very nice to use
Stock Google Talk has built in video chat
Very good battery life despite the 1520mah battery
Very fast data speeds - I virtually always get over 5Mbps on Telecom XT
Audio quality is quite nice - especially with 'Beats' enhancement on custom roms

The Bad

Build quality isn't that great - I had dust under my screen and had to send back for repair, LinuxLuver had his volume rocker fall off
Stock ROMs are quite slow - especially the browser
CPU isn't quite as powerful as the one in the SGS2
Adreno 220 is less powerful than the Mali400
Doesn't support 1080p MKV video (important if you use HDMI via MHL to an HDTV)
VGA front facing camera
No video calling over UMTS (mobile networks)
Not enough RAM for Sense UI and multiple other applications to run simultaneously
Very poor loudspeaker volume

SGSII
The Good

Blazing fast CPU (especially noticeable in browser and scrolling lists)
Mali400 GPU is the fastest available on an Android device to this date
High build quality (durable)
Plays virtually every video format including 1080p
Great quality front facing camera (2MP)
Slim (if you like that)
Amazing screen - i was not convinced until I actually got it but damn it's nice
Plenty of ram to run as many apps as you like
Heaps of custom roms to choose from

The Bad

Screen is only WVGA so a higher res would be welcome
Battery life for me hasn't been stellar (other people seem to get more though)
Light/Slim build may not be for everyone
Default ROM doesn't have Google Talk with video chat (easily fixed if you root)
Despite the rated up to 21Mbps HSPA+ I have found data speeds to be disappointing ~2-3Mbps on Telecom XT
Audio quality of Yamaha chip doesn't quite equal the SGS1 or the Sensation but not noticeable by the average user

This new Radio seems to be quite harsh on my battery. Has anyone else noticed that there's more battery drain with the new Radio?

Going back a few pages (to 20 September) I had a question about using headsets designed for iPhones on Android devices. I read that Samsung changed the 3.5mm plug configuration after the SGSI to make the SGSII compatible with iPhone headsets, but couldn’t find any info about the HTC Sensation.

Ater my local store sold out I managed to pick up a pair of the Sennheiser 218i phones (with in-line mic and three button controller) when I was out of town on the weekend. The verdict is that some functionality is supported out of the box.

I can hear the music, get an audio notification when a call comes in, and can use the centre button to answer the call, and hang up and return to the music. The outer two buttons are designed to skip tracks forward/back and adjust volume up/down on an iPhone, and this functionality doesn't work on the Sensation. I assume that there is a specific command sequence the headset buttons send to an iPhone that isn’t being recognised.

But there are a couple of "headphone controller" apps on the Android market that look promising, so that's the next step.

Hmm... Seems even with the headphone controller app.s the left and right buttons don't seem to work on a headset designed for iPhones. One of the developers defines this as "a limitation of the Android framework". Fortunately the centre button can be configured for a number of different functions using 1, 2, 3, or 4 clicks, press and hold, or 1, 2, or 3 clicks followed by a press and hold, so I can do everything I need with the one button.

I'm no developer [read: I know nothing about programming for Android] so perhaps someone else can explain why it's impossible to recognise and respond to signals from three different buttons if they were "designed for iPhone"? The original headset that ships with the Sensation has three buttons so Android must be able to figure out whether a signal comes from the left, centre or right one. What makes iPhone buttons so special?
