DrD: New version of Task Manager v1.5.1 in Samsung Apps now available.

NB don't install this on any of the Froyo ROMs, it crashes everything apparently.

The Kies update to v1.5.3.10093.31 is still updating...
I must have clicked the retry button over 100 times... on the "The Internet is disconnected" dialog.
Kies update is plain busted!

@100% and 211703/68657 KB
currently on the file SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe.cab

Who know how much longer it has to go...

I'll post an update when it finishes.

For what it's worth the only way I could get this to complete was to go via a US-based (pay) VPN. The file it gets stuck on is only 19MB.

Okay, need a bit of help now. I flashed the new firmware and was up to the second bit about getting the Root.

I followed the steps until I got to the "reboot into recovery mode and flash the update.zip you put in the root folder of your sdcard.

I did this, but the message on the screen said there was no update.zip file.

I did not remove the battery, rather replaced the back cover on my phone and then doing that I've got the:
! with the Android.

From what I've read, this means the phone is bricked.

Is there anything anyone can suggest here? TIA

PS, I wonder if in placing the cover back on the phone I've accidentally pressed the back button or something, however the reboot option was selected, at this point I only expected the home button would be capable of committing a command, and that command would have been to reboot.

Take the battery and the SIM card out, then put the battery back in and try to go into download mode with volume down + Home + Power. If this works reflash to JPK with Odin and start again.

Cheers, back into download mode and starting again.  Cross fingers I get it right this time. I think perhaps I copied the Update.zip file into the external SD but I'm not 100% sure, however that would explain the message I got when trying to apply the SD root.

When should I put the SIM back in?

Thanks again :)

When the flashing is complete and the phone is booting but before you register the phone with your Google account. I'm not sure it really needs to be taken out but I always do.

It's under "Wireless and Network" now, goodness knows why.

It's got the media scanner icon, have you used any of the hacks to disable media scanning? Did you do a "wipe data" from the recovery menu after you upgraded (strongly recommended)?

Right, all sorted. Thanks numfarr for your assistance.

Two questions: Did anyone use Titanium Backup to restore your apps. I understand it might be okay for that but not for the data.

Second question, did you do the Stock Lockscreen bit, and if so why, or if not, why not. Thanks again :)

Yes I used Titanium, set to restore only missing apps and data and checked on the list that there were no system apps, no problems so far. Don't restore system apps and data.

I had to clear data from Market afterwards to get my downloaded apps list back, not sure if that was Titanium's fault or the upgrade (Settings -> Applications -> Manage Applications -> Market -> Clear data).

I've turned the lockscreen off with the "No lock" widget, this means you still get screen blanking but just pressing the Home button will unlock.

For lockscreen I recommend using No Lock to get rid of stock touchwiz one, then using Widgetlocker as your default one - then you can configure your lockscreen however you like...

Kies keeps download data... Nothing updates - I've had enough.  I've canceled it.
Tried it again, it did the same thing - got stuck on the SAMSUNG USB drivers...
Exit Kies and try again...
Now the Kies update check doesn't finish - so I'm unable to update it.

Funny thing is Kies still works!
The Firmware Update competes - but I get "The latest version is already installed on connected device"

Still no official Froyo!

Kies is a weird application...

unfortunately it isnt the media scanning icon..

its a Sim card.. with a Cogwheel.. its the simtoolkit icon.. who knows what it means.. maybe its because i restored some APNs with apn backup..

who knows.. the media scanner looks like a micro SD card with a cogwheel
