Not surprisingly Trademe is removing every Note 7 as soon as they are listed

I just don't understand what is so different about this phone that they can't seem to get it right - given Samsung have been making phones for eons and it's very similar in design to the S7 Edge which has no problems.

 

Samsung are MASSIVE. We have no idea what they actually make, here we see them as an electronics company because we only get their phones, tv, fridges etc. In Asia they do EVERYTHING, even bloody Cars.

Got a few things that need clarification and am hoping someone may have answers... So I bought a recalled Note7 a few days ago from someone who had already bought another phone while waiting for this "safe" model to arrive. Hence ended up selling this after it arrived. I was provided the original receipt for it and it says it was bought outright from a Vodafone store in Glenfield.

So the questions I have are:

1) How does the return process work in this case since I'm not the original purchaser but still have the original receipt? Will I still be eligible for refund or exchange?

2) Are Vodafone refunding cash or crediting to account like Spark?

3) Can I go return it to any Vodafone store or do I have to go into the store it was purchased from?

One possible explanation for the defect, the edge of the battery might be too 'rounded' causing the cells inside to short out and catch fire.

Wondering if I let the dust settle and see what the end result will be (if they are going to re-release or just abandon).

 

If they are able to determine the fault and a good quality check to ensure my device doesn't have said fault, I am tempted to keep it. 

 

 

I am in the same boat. The most difficult thing for me is that I use the S-pen most afternoons when I am out and about. So there are no real alternatives in terms of useable choice to keep me going for the next 10 months or so. TradeMe might be an option for a second hand Note 5 or 4 in the interim.

 

The S7 Edge (arguably the best currently working smartphone of 2016) is very nice. But again trying to compare the two, it feels like a step backwards with the display lacking in comparison.

 

I am beginning to feel that a cheap but well spec'd Droid of some sort might be the best way to see me through the next 7 - 9 months or so. No big outlay and it can be written off as an "inconvenience". In the meantime, I keep my Note7 until such time as I have to make a decision, based on whatever timeframe Spark and Samsung NZ agree on and/or demand. You never know, I might even be so lucky as to get a full replacement refund on the next Note model rather than be forced to change phone quickly because internet media suggests that's what I have to do.

 

I think patience could be a virtue here. In the meantime, the Note 7 will be turned off for a hard earned rest.

 

On another matter that influences me to sit calmly and wait ....... nobody appears to know what the problem is at this stage. For all I know, it could be related to the chip, or even a downloadable programme that manages the battery and creating a conflict. There are plenty of those around - free, all of them and we know how people love free. So, until we know just exactly what the common denominator is, I am convinced that the best option is to wait and see what happens.

 

Actually that's not a bad idea! To hang on to it then hand it in for the next release! I wonder if I can carry on with the Note5 loaner I have, They may not want it back (cunning plan)

If you have the receipt then I can't see it being a problem. I wasn't aware it was available to purchase outright, but there you go!

If it is a purchase outright, they will refund the purchase price. Be aware though if it was on CC they usually ask for the card to credit back. If the person had it on 'account' then they would credit that account, Pay to ask them ;-)

I wonder if any of the carriers will start selling the N5 again now...

This is where i'm going to put my phone in before i go to sleep every night. (until i return it)

Still have some small speck of hope that all those fire cases were to do with disgruntled V1 owners who parallel imported or what not and couldn't get it replaced so they decided to flaunt it.

But with 2 cases being reported in NZ... a bit too close to home...

I guess it's back to the note 3 then 

I'm wondering about all the millions of accessories manufactured to support this phone... Samsung going to pay out for those too... or do they fit the Note5 (maybe Note8?)

Any idea what's going to happen with the free bunch of Note 7 specific accessories? Can they be returned for the offered tablet?

I've just swapped out for the S7 Edge and it feels like a step backwards. Well, lets face it, it is.

 

I was surprised how much of a step backwards it felt! Apart from the fact my S7edge remains to function when its warm. My N7 would lock up as soon as it got warm, sometimes during a process and it would get super hot, hot enough for me to put it on the lawn.  Had no faith in it at all and towards the end I'd charge it inside a pot with a lid on it haha

Add me to the list of people disappointed in the change from Note 7 to S7E, it just feels like such an inferior phone.

I've gone back to my note5, it's still better in most regards than anything else.
