vinnieg: Oh damn, I have to say, I'm completely underwhelmed also

If NZ isn't part of the global launch on the 29th, then I think I'll be getting another One X

Don't do it man! Wolfson + micro SD + removable larger capacity battery + GLONASS + better GPU. The announcement may have underwhelmed a little with how silly expectations got but it is clearly a better phone than the One X overall.

+1

Having the Wolfson DAC back is great news.

For those people who are underwhelmed, what is you wanted but didn't get, be interested to know.

In plain english what is this DAC? Why is it so good?

Digital to analogue converter Wolfson make great quality audio converters. Reason why the S1 audio quality is way better than the S2.

JayTaicho: Apart from the bland design, seems a lot of people are disappointed with the pentile screen.

I don't know why certain people hate on the SAMOLED HD pentile screen so much?! I've got the Galaxy Note, and it's the best screen I had ever seen on a mobile device (at the time) when I bought it.

On another note, @NZtechfreak I enjoyed your One X overview and the comparisons to the GNote. If the screen is as good as you say, the One X might just be 'my next'. Or maybe wait it out for the GNote 2 :D

I don't think I could go back to a smaller screen now. I was holding my HTC Sensation the other night and it felt old and small.

I would only buy a GNote 2 with the same sized screen. Anything else is losing.

My other dissapointment was Pixel Density. I really wanted something with a high count in that area.

Few comments:

First, people are disappointed with TouchWiz. Who cares? Just use another launcher people.

Second, people who don't appreciate how much better this is than the One X (screen aside). It's not knocking it out of the park like the S2 did, but it's a definite step up from any current competing product. Better GPS via GLONASS, better DAC via Wolfson, removable battery with more power than the alternatives, better SoC and the best GPU currently available in a phone, need to wait for camera example shots but since the S2/Note produce better images than the Android competitors already and this one improves on the hardware (backside illumination) and software it likely will best them there too, better internal storage AND micro SD slot which most others are lacking. Almost across the board it's internals are better than the One X and other alternatives within the same generation. I think peoples disappointment based on unrealistically high expectations is clouding their objectivity a bit here.

Music.

Voodoo Sound S1 sound quality absolutely destroys the disappointing quality of the S2.

Great if you're happy with the S2's sound, but those of us with more demanding ears care a lot about the Wolfson DAC.

So what happened to the ceramic-composite shell?  Sorry, I've been so busy this morning I haven't had a chance to do anything more than skim-read. . . . I have to say I'm not a massive fan of the look of it, but I'll reserve judgement until I see some high-res pics, and have a hold of one.

Perhaps now this is out we can all move on to the real issue - a viable, solid alternative to the iPad3!!!!

My guess, through Vodafone assuming they sell them outright, around $1200, or direct from clove.co.uk I would say around $900, but that's purely a guess.

For me that's one of the main disappointments, it's looks. Dam ugly TBH. Love the slim and easy look for the S2, Note and Sensation. Plus the sexy curve of the Nexus.
