Okay I installed Rom and tried installing CWM through there but read somewhere that it won't work.

So manually installed CWM for i9100 through odin and re rooted again by superOneClick.

Next I tried to backup my current by CWM, turned off the phone, pressed volume down, power and home button but it just goes into "downloading" mode and I have no idea how to go into cwm recovery mode and make a backup :(

I have downloaded Cognition v1.15 from - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124396 and just waiting on how to backup.

Actually its all done. running cognition atm. I didn't wipe any cache or data just because it wasn't in instructions. But I did manage to do couple of backups.

Anyone found fix to working trademe ? And pinch zoom out is not working inside stock browser to view opened tabs and switch between them..

Hey guys, am currently running Litening Rom v2.2, and I can safely say this one is the best so far. Haven't tried the v3.0 XXKG2 as its still into early hours of introduction plus from what I read on xda needs some refinement from Litepro.

Battery life has improved immensely on litening. Other things, I bought a USB jig to get rid of the yellow triangle and it has done just that! Wow! Also bought a case mate tough case for the phone and aint I loving it? Has completely changed the look and feel of the phone. Feels more solid in hand and actually feels like a $1000+ phone now! The material is really good.

Going through last few posts, I decided to try Titanium backup and watched the youtube video posted by Neets, however my phone restarted on its own at about 6% into the backup. Is it something I am doing wrong? Trying to backup to external microSD card and USB debugging mode is NOT on. does it have to be?

Cheers guys..

Vol down is to get into download mode. You need to hold Vol up to get into recovery mode. Happy flashing! :)

Not sure why that happened, it should have been fine. Have you tried another back-up after that failed? I don't worry about backing up to SD, I actually copy the files onto my computer once a week.

Hi Guys,

Brand new here. I've jumped into the deep end and joined the Smartphone bandwagon.

Loving my SGS2 so far, and really want to get the most out of it.
I've already rooted (via CF kernal with CWM), installed Titanium Backup Pro, Tasker, and a few other bits and pieces.

Is there a really good set of resources for starting out on android? My current problem is what is the best way to manage contacts? Previous post mention google contacts, do I just manually add them through there? Currently I seem to have two separate list of contacts, one that comes up when using the 'contacts app' and a completely separate list when I compose a message (Seems to be every single email in my gmail account).

Once I get my head around that then I can start getting into the really fun stuff. Tasker seems really awesome, if not a little overwhelming at the moment.

This forum is probably one of the best places to start - there are other resources like XDA, but you'll likely get swamped with information there, as it's incredibly vast, and changes quickly.

Here's the how-to I use to import contacts from a phone/sim to an Android device/Gmail account:

1.  Open Contacts on your Galaxy S2.2.  Menu -> More -> Import/Export -> Export to SD.3.  Menu -> More -> Import/Export -> Import from SD.4.  Choose to import contacts to your GMAIL account (this is the very important step!)5.  Wait until your phone has synced.6.  Open Gmail, go to your Contacts -> More Actions -> Find and Merge Duplicates7.  Wait and your phone will resync. (Optionally, go into Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> Uncheck and Check Sync Contacts to force resync) From now on when you create a contact, just remember to create it for your Google account and not your Phone!

You will probably have to do quite a bit of manual clean-up though, but it's a one-time job.  Then go into your contacts, and de-select the option to display contacts from phone & SIM, leaving Gmail as the only option.

I'd highly recommend SMS Backup+ (download from the market) to back up your SMS/MMS & call logs to your Gmail account.

Cognition has more support from themer's, but can't have the gpu overclocked like others can.  There's really sod all difference. Designgears (cognition) is a very responsive dev though.

Cognition took out samsung social hub and itsstock fb so I can't sync fb contacts with my google phoned contacts completely. Only some of my contacts have fb photo synced up, tried manually syncing few times but certain contacts will not sho fb display pics as their contact pic.

You can add them back though. Check out the removed apps and widgets in his first post. Just pick the ones you want back and install them.

My fb stuff worked fine, but I'm using the facebook app.

Awesome thanks for the tip, looks like I've got a lot of cleaning up ahead, but good to know it'll make managing contacts much easier once complete.

I've finally filtered my contact list, and it's synched up nicely. One little thing, under the contacts I can filter to show only those with numbers, which is awesome. Is there a similar setting for the message app?

I am now a proud new owner of S2, just got it yesterday, have rooted it and flashed to a stock Asian ROM, loving it.

One of the new feature I like is the ability to add a folder to the apps page, I have about 28 different games which I have put into that folder. Does anyone know how I can rename the folder? I can't find anywhere that allows me to do that.

Also when I came into work this morning (Auckland CBD - Shortland St), I noticed HSPA+ is on? It has the H+ next to the signal strength bar. I am on Voda. This may have been mentioned/discussed before, is anyone else getting it as well?

Deli23: Does anyone know if Vodafone NZ supppots fast dormancy? Is it worth disabling?

Today's response to the Fast Dormancy query. Vodafone were MUCH faster to respond than Telecom, but only as far as redirecting the question...

Thank you for your website enquiry.

As this stage I am unable to advise you with any information regarding Network Control Fast Dormancy - NCFD.

If you click on the following link you can correspond via email with our Technical staff and who will be able to assist you further:

We'll soon see how their team stacks up against Telecom's response time. ;)
