Today's response to the Fast Dormancy query. Vodafone were MUCH faster to respond than Telecom, but only as far as redirecting the question...

Have you tried calling Vodafone solutions support on 0800921021? they are more like a level 2 support or something. Not sure if that number still works, they used to provide technical support for smartphones as I recall.

You're welcome to try. ;)

My e-mail query has been directed to Vodafone's "Technical Staff", but it's more of a network query than smartphone specific. I wasn't prepared to risk the call centre and spend ages attempting to explain it whilst getting nowhere. Much easier to flick an e-mail to them and wait. :)

mrgsm021: I am now a proud new owner of S2, just got it yesterday, have rooted it and flashed to a stock Asian ROM, loving it.

One of the new feature I like is the ability to add a folder to the apps page, I have about 28 different games which I have put into that folder. Does anyone know how I can rename the folder? I can't find anywhere that allows me to do that.

Also when I came into work this morning (Auckland CBD - Shortland St), I noticed HSPA+ is on? It has the H+ next to the signal strength bar. I am on Voda. This may have been mentioned/discussed before, is anyone else getting it as well?

Auckland and Wellington CBDs have HSPA + dual carrier cell sites on Vodafone. I have managed a 7.69 Mbps d/l using speedtest app just outside the Telecom building on Victoria Street on HSPA+ Voda :)

gingerbread.xwke1 is my build (stock), is there an official upgrade I should consider?

Any of you using this phone with the Parrot MKI9200? I am having problems with the pairing hanging the phone sometimes, usually a reboot of one or the other is possible, but sometimes it's driving me crazy!

It's a factory rom still, no root. Directly copied from another thread (source at end):

"That is saying root@DELL103.

It's telling you the username used to compile the kernel, and the name of the machine that compiled it. So we know that computer name DELL103 was used, and the user was logged on as root a the time."

Brendan's post a few pages back answers the how and which CF kernel you need. Don't bother updating with Kies, it's not necessary.

You need root to install CWM.

But the easiest way to do it all is to use ODIN to flash a chainfire CF-root kernel; instructions are on XDA. As if you need more help.

Install kies (but don't use it, it's crap. You just want the drivers).

download ODIN 1.85 and extract it to the root of your c drive.

Download the CF-Root kernel for your phone (look in settings/about phone, then down the bottom. You might have KE8, or KF2, orr anything. Match that with the cf-root kernel so you get the right one).

Put the phone into download mode (power off, then hold in the volume down and home buttons; then hold in power for 5 seconds. It'll ask you if you want to continue, and you say yes).

Load up odin. THEN (only then) plug in the phone. Wait until windows loads the drivers and recognises it. A yellow label should appear top left of odin when the phone is ready.

Put the CF-Root tar file you downloaded into the PDA slot. repartition should NOT be ticked. a PIT file should NOT be loaded.

Check all the THREE times.

Click start. It should only take a minute. The phone should re-boot.

There will be a yellow triangle on the boot screen; that's expected.

Your phone is now rooted AND has CWM installed.

Get into CWM by powering off the phone, and hold in volume UP and home key; then hold in power for 5 seconds odd. Move up and down the menu's with vol up/down, execute with power button or home key (depends on version of cwm). sometimes the back button is used to go back a menu.

Probably the first thing you want to do is a backup of your current system. Got to the backup menu. Self explanatory. That is a nandroid backup.

Having achieved all this, you will find that ALL women want you and all men want to be like you

Huh. Didn't realise there was no kernel for KE1.

If you want to run Lite'ning Rom, just flash it. You'll be fine.

If you want to run most others you will probably want to update first and then flash the custom rom. Now's probably a good time to wave goodbye to Kies and use Odin instead. Just nab one of the firmwares from here and go nuts. :)

1. Installs CWM and roots your phone at the same time. Blue theme'd rom, good battery life, I quite liked it. Link.

2. I've never gone back to a stock rom, but if you retain root you will be able to use titanium back-up and easily restore all your data and apps. Titanium is a great app...
