ive been thinking carefully about this since the reports and videos on the weak point on the 6plus volume rocker side... ive never had trouble with any of Sammy's earlier devices even after leaning on phones against a sharp edge heavily whilst working on the car etc - never had bending or breakages.

but this is Sammy's first real foray into metals for the frame of a flagship (Alpha aside) - i wonder if something like this could catch them out??

I wouldn't expect it, the 6+ is very slim, and I suspect there with the all-metal construction the dispersal of forces because of the dimensions makes it possibly more prone to distorting. I would not expect that with the Note 4, although it could happen.

Note 4 release date in Oz set for October 29th at a cost of $A949, thats about $1042 NZD, hopefully around same date for here

unfortunately no - The Note 4 is set to be available in Australia from October 29, with a pre-sale from October 15, and you can grab one for $A949 outright.

Not at all! I love the Note series, and I've held onto them longer than just about any other smartphones I've had (I have had a fair few). But after several years, little niggles become annoyances. :)

- C'mon, there is no excuse for a 4x4 app grid on a 5.7" screen. Yes, I could use another launcher, and I do, but I'd rather not have to for something so basic, especially now Apple has moved to 4x6. Plus, unlike most, I genuinely enjoy the Touchwiz launcher. LG uses 5x5, which I would prefer - the original Galaxy Note was 5x5 - but 4x6 is perfectly serviceable. 4x4 is not.

- Two clocks on the lockscreen. Big clock + status bar, despite there being code in AOSP to hide the status bar clock on the lockscreen. Redundant design. I do not really need to know the time twice! I've been able to fix this in the past thanks to the lockscreen widget system, as several third-party widgets hide the lockscreen clock when set in place, but Samsung removed the widget system in the S5 & Note 4.

- Static date on the calendar icon. Oh, Splanner - It is forever the 31st. Today Calendar + Nova Launcher fixes this, but again, it shouldn't have to (Insert a few gripes about icons here - I don't hate them like some seem to, they could just use a more muted colour palette & a redesign).

- The Note II featured a genius feature called Page Buddy, which automatically switched to a new page of the Touchwiz launcher when removing the stylus, inserting headphones, or roaming. These pages could be customised with whatever activity-specific widgets and shortcuts one so desired, and disappeared when reinserting the stylus/removing headphones/et cetera. This feature was removed as of the Note 3, & has not returned, much to my disappointment.

Not huge by any means, but enough to make me take a look at that new entrant in my preferred device class - I came to Android from Windows Mobile, so I'm not especially devoted to any one ecosystem, especially when Google makes it so easy to keep using its services.

That said, I'll play with a Note 4 for work anyway, because it's a hard life. ;)

Also Cat6 LTE is 300 Mbps down and 75 Mbps up thanks to carrier aggregation. That is very, very compelling when everything else on the market peaks at Cat4.

You've pretty much just written out the reasons for going Android, fullstop. Don't like something? You change it. Phone missing a feature? No worries, they'll be an, a widget, or something on XDA that will sort it.

Sure go to Apple, but if you have a problem with something, stiff shirt on finding a fix.

Interesting, I spoke to a guy at a 2 Deg store yesterday and he said next week....might have been talking through a hole ... ... ... maybe though.

Pretty much so. Nothing is ever 100% perfect - I'm just grouchy because I've had to find fixes for these relatively simple things for years, and the new entrant in my preferred device class/form factor has them all sorted out of the box. :)

Depends what you consider the issues to be. :)

I'd miss the S Pen for sure, I'd miss sideloading the latest updated APKs, the ease with which regional restrictions can generally be bypassed, having FLAC support, an SD slot, certain widgets, a file explorer, and from time to time a few more advanced things (Terminal emulation, assorted network tools, ADB, Fastboot, the modular approach to replacing any app or function with third party alternatives, et cetera). But ultimately, those aren't as important to me now as they have been in years past.

I've been using Android since Cupcake was ported to the Windows Mobile HTC Titan, and I've been using iOS since I traded a phone for an iPad 2, so I'm aware of the limitations and advantages of both. Google has made it incredibly easy to transition, should I wish to, as the iOS suite of Google apps is in some ways better (at least aesthetically) than its Android counterparts, and they pulled that sneaky 'shadow ecosystem' move by allowing sharing of data and content between those apps before it became more widely possible in iOS 8. All of my favourite apps are cross-platform.

I haven't played with an iPhone 6 Plus just yet, so it's still up in the air. Honestly, the most compelling reason for me to switch beyond the drawcards of 64bit and the reported battery life is that I love phablets, all-in-one mobile computing devices are my bread and butter - and I want to see firsthand what Apple's robust third party developer space does with larger screen real estate in a new device class. If we see a repeat of the iPad, there could be some wonderful software experiences to be had.

The Galaxy Note 4 is exceptionally nice, however. The same thing happened to me last year, only then I was going back and forth between the Note 3 and the HTC One max. We'll see! Will probably hang onto my Note 3 if I do go the iOS route, so I'll not miss anything from the other camp (Joy of having two SIM cards).
