I had JP6 running stable for a few days (since Saturday). Last night I installed Voodoo 5 preview for Froyo and it went fine, had the desired effect etc. This morning I installed Superuser and Busybox to take advantage of the root, and after a reboot my phone refused to boot, even after cache wipe and factory reset :-(

Trying to download JP6 and Odin at work now...

I tried to get into reboot mode this morning and had that awful sinking feeling when I saw for the first time the brick icons. Thankfully I was able to get into download mode and just flashed the JPM tar file in Odin.

I'll have to look up how to uninstall the Root access and try the one Lokhor has mentioned.

I feel for you trying to breathe life back into your phone while at work.

How have people found the Samsung support phone service. I have called them about ten times, my details and problem get recorded then they tell me someone will call me back within 24 to 48 hours. So far I have never been called back (at least a week since my last call). It might be time for me to root my phone and go Froyo?

Hi lokhor, can you provide the URL for where you access SuperOneClick. I've been searching XDA and found several posts that mention it, but haven't found the file yet.

Right now I'm reading about an alternative to Voodoo which seems positive - but what would I know ;-)

The instructions aren't great on the first page. Reading through to page 22. You need to flash the z4mod patch using Odin. And after that, copy the (renamed) update.zip file to the internal SD and then reboot into recovery to apply.

I've now got a modified kernel and downloaded the *.update.zip file for Ext2 but haven't yet continued further. There's still discussion about getting root access. Everyone's talking about the SuperOneClick file. So it would be great if you could point me to that, then I might be brave enough to give this a shot. Cheers.

I saw the z4mod but the Voodoo fix sounds a lot easier. z4 is more experimental anyway. I'm hoping that Supercurio brings out a JFS version of Voodoo as it is supposed to have great speed and lower cpu usage.

Ringing Samsung about:

Kies not being able to update itself without losing the internet connection (need to download new copy)
Connecting to wireless at home, school and the library. Currently I need to input proxy settings each time I change and the library does not look to be able to support droid browser.
Advice on several areas that would enable me to use the phone as a central tool in my classroom planning and teaching. Use of multiple calendars, two way synching from outlook, whether it is more effective to run everything through a Gmail account. Having trouble connecting wireless and bluetooth for remote control of PC and VNC connection.

I guess I had too many questions or they got annoyed with me when I rang them back after 72 hours and told them I felt unsupported and alone.

Anyone had to enable the 3 button recovery/download on their phones? I have mine disabled. I had a read of this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201&page=13 post number 124. My firmware is not even listed.

The reason I want this to be enabled, is because my firmware seems very old and I would like to update to a newer Eclair available. I will have to root my phone to do that. But A lot of people specifically have said not to root it if I can't get 3 button recovery/download working first. Any tips would be greatly appreaciated appreciated.

Thing you might need to know is my CSC: I9000VNZJH2 (Told you it was old :P).

I guess that's further proof NZ is so tiny it doesn't rate a mention. For me I would have gone: OPS Unbranded / Custom apps: (Optus Australia).

I had OPS in my phone as it was an Optus sold phone. And it's the closest one they've got listed.

Have you done a search for VNZ on the forums? Maybe it's tucked away in another thread.

Came back with nothing. I think I will post up on XDA and ask the "hardouts" (lol) about it. :>

I think you might be right about Optus tho. If it comes to it, I will just have to use that. Cheers. :)

Urgh, XDA hasn't been much help. It's frustrating having an outdated firmware version and not being able to upgrade to a newer one without rooting the phone, which can void the warranty. And I'm not about to start flashing without the recovery enabled. Why wont Samsung release stock firmware for all the countries. This actually makes me think that NZ wont even get the 2.2 update at all. :(

Read this thread I downloaded the second Zipped up Archive available as i have the I9000 not the I9000M

Placed the Update.zip on the SD Card Root...

Downloaded Android SDK

Activated USB DEBUGGING Kicked Phone in to Recovery using adb

and ran the update .zip

in a matter of 15 secons my phone just had a reverse vasectomy..

Ha! Looks like ranton was having the same issue as me and he found the fix! Ranton, how save was this?

And did you overcome the CSC not matching?

Worth picking one of these up for $799? Or are there too many problems still needing to be sorted out?

I was waiting for official Froyo to come out when it was thought to be Oct but now I'm not sure.

I wouldnt worry about it not matching mate..

Tho my phone is registering as VNZ.. it doesnt actually matter a damn...

TBH i was all worried and yeah about it being not officall VNZ Firmware.. but now i dont care any longer!
