0verdose05: Worth picking one of these up for $799? Or are there too many problems still needing to be sorted out?

I was waiting for official Froyo to come out when it was thought to be Oct but now I'm not sure.

I love the phone. I love the customisaton that's possible.  I love all the forums that provide information and support.  I would definitely recommend it.  The phone is perfect for me.  (Note: not everyone is the same as me - thank God!)

I wouldnt worry about it not matching mate..

Tho my phone is registering as VNZ.. it doesnt actually matter a damn...

TBH i was all worried and yeah about it being not officall VNZ Firmware.. but now i dont care any longer!

it works brilliantly...

Cool, I will give it shot. So you followed instructions given the the post # 1 of http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=785201 thread, right? Therefore I assume my next step is to download Odin and follow those instructions? Anything else that I need to know before attempting this bud?

Picked one up today at lunchtime.

Can't seem to locate where to lock the wifi to N exclusively.
But thats just one more thing added to the long list of reading I have ahead of me.

The most helpful tip at this point would be to ask, what apps/features should I not bog myself down with in the time between now and official Froyo release?
Having no familiarity with Android, I'm not sure what is staying the same, what is being tweaked and what is going to be made redundant altogether.

The author of that ^^^^ thread has confirmed that the instructions from the first post should work fine and not worry about the CSC. However, I ran into problems already. When trying to open/download the adb.exe file I get the following error – "The program can't start because AdbWinApi.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem". Any suggestions/ideas?

You need all the files from the Android SDK, see the ADB Tutorial.

So I have to get my phone rooted in order to run this file? What if rooting goes wrong and phone is bricked and I don't have the 3 button recovery mode enabled? hmm...

From that same thread you were looking at, the first person to provide a comment had a link to rooting your phone that works for phones without the 3 button recovery:

With the phone from Noel Leemings - is it possible to go overseas with this phone?

Seriously thinking of picking this up...

Ok, what I mean is that if something goes wrong when I'm rooting it, I will have no way of recovering, as 3 button function is disabled. I might need to return this phone soon as I have issues with camera. I don't want to void my warranty you see. I understand that I can unroot the phone if needs to be. But I was thinking that if I'm taking it back under warranty for camera, I might as well ask them to enable my 3 button recovery/download mode. What would be a good argument that I need it if they ask why would I need that function? I can't say that "oh, because I want to install later firmware, as the one on it is out of date, and your stupid Kies doesn't allow me to". hahahaha...

You mean roaming? Then yes. All of the NZ carriers allow you roaming on their networks.

I'm not sure I understand.  If you've got roaming then it wouldn't matter.  That's not about the phone, but whether you've had your phone number set up to allow roaming.  Talk with your mobile company and they'll be able to say for certain.

I think some others have explained it as needed should the upgrade via Kies mess up part way through.  Allowing you to get to recovery mode means you've got a menu option to reset to factory (I think that's the name of the option).
