I tried to install a game this evening, I was told I didn't have enough storage space free. I have 9GB free (on my 16GB phone), 2.5GB of apps, 181MB of photos and videos, 1GB of misc files, and 1GB free. That just doesn't add up, I should have at least 5GB free. Any ideas what's going on?

Storage analyser tells me I have 8GB free, but doesn't really tell me anything else useful.

Have any nandroid backups?

clockworkmod folder under backup folder

mine save to ext sd card.

I had some issues like that a while back and whilst i save just about everything to ext sd it was reporting huge amount of data used. Couldn't find it so when i did a full wipe I did SD card and it freed up a lot

Mine save to the external SD card as well, but it's possible there's one laying around on internal storage somewhere too.

/sdcard/backups and /sdcard/clockworkmod are both trivially small.

if you have nothing of any real use in there you could reflash your Rom but format internal SD first

It was a nandroid backup in the /data directory, diskusage found it right away. Thanks guys, 5GB free now :)

Launcher Advice please:

I have been on the beta of the aviate launcher, and I really like the superb layout and colour scheme, but it's too 'social' for me and I am having trouble adjusting to the way it works.

I have been a SPB 3D Shell user for years and I do like it, but it's pretty battery hungry.

So what I want is:

Looks like Aviate, has a single row of buttons at the bottom instead of two rows, has an area for Widgets like upcoming appointments, and has a easy searchable app tray.

where to start, what did you come from as it may provide a starting point also what are you wanting to do.

This is a bit basic and isn't specific to your phone but mostly all phones have the basics.

Root it and add a custom ROM, gives you more flexibility. I think it's a bit tricky if your ROM is knox enabled.

Let us know what you want to do and we can give you some tips. I got my first smart phone 3-6 months ago, the S4, so I know where you're coming from.

This is my first smart phone for a while. Had a iPhone 3GS on release for a few months but hated touch screen and only just got rid of my old flip top.

I don't really know what I want, I guess easier or more efficient usability and definitely added flexibility. What is the most used ROM? Something that I won't have many problems with and will be relatively easy to upgrade when kit kat arrives.

Sorry if im not real specific, just don't know much about android.
