nofam: Not really - the logging imposes a reasonable overhead, so he turned it off to save battery. . . . there's a certain logic there.

In case anyone is looking for the source of this info, look here.

hardcore: AOS and some other apps don't appear in the battery usage stats because the kernel is compiled with CPU Frequency Stats off to remove the overhead associated with the statistics logging.

In any case, it's debatable whether or not AOS appearing in battery usage is a bug.

Whether or not AOS is showing, I'm seeing very little battery usage with this kernel and Cognition. 2 hours on battery and still on 99%. I'm very pleased.

Here are the niggly details for those that care:
- WiFi is on (set to never sleep)
- Social Hub added back in, minus the Facebook/LinkedIn/MySpace/Twitter modules
- Syncing 4 email accounts (Social Hub Hotmail, Exchange, IMAP, GMail) + Twitter
- Screen on time is only about 3 minutes (so almost all battery drain is process-based, not screen-based)

Wahay, my phone has arrived from overseas and is with Electron-World. It's being packaged to be sent to me by overnight courier. Tomorrow should be fun! :-)

So, assuming the phone arrives tomorrow, it will be 10 full days from placing the order and making payment to receiving the phone. That's a pretty good turn around, considering the phone had to come from overseas.

Just curious as to what your display time is if you dont mind plz?

I dont get near as much battery time as you, but I do get enough to do everything I need and still have ample battery life.

1 hour, 19 minutes of screen time (25%) - not heavy usage to be fair, but still very impressive, considering there's no underclocking/volting going on.

I had to buy this to last through a single day with no concerns. It cost me something like $13 from ebay and is quite well discussed here. I am fully aware it's not going to be the world's best battery, but it leaves my oem one for dead. I get about 5 hours screen time: video playback, browsing/rss feeds/forums, playing mp3's and a bit of gaming at night (about half an hour or so), with more than 20% left. I used to have to make a couple of top up charges during the day, not anymore.

My phone has been off charge for 7 hours, awake for 3¾hrs, wifi on for 1½hrs, screen on for an hour. I'm at 85% battery remaining. Wifi on when screen's on, GPS on, Data off, Bluetooth off, most Samsung crap removed. Underclocked to 1000mHz and slightly undervolted.

I'm holding out for a momax style battery with a kickstand incorporated. Then I can drop the cheap battery for something I trust a little more. I bought this one with the thought that at $13 it cost sod all and was worth a try. It was.

Lol that makes me feel bettor my screen time is around 4 hours and got around 14 hours battery.

The kernel doesn't need to 100% match the ROM in order for it to be used. I'd suggest looking at the KG6 kernel from this post, or even Ninphetamine or SpeedMod. All of them are rooted kernels with CWM.

Ninphetamine and SpeedMod are probably slightly better choices than CF-Root. CF-Root is a stock binary kernel with some tweaks applied, whereas the others are built from source code. You can apply a greater range of tweaks to the source code, which means you can get better performance and battery life out of the phone.

after last battery it was 44% still pretty average

Are either of you using a custom ROM and/or kernel? I'm on Cognition S2 v1.31 + SpeedMod kernel K1 T17, and I don't see Android OS in my list either.

It's possible that a ROM customisation is hiding the process from the list, or that a source-built kernel contains tweaks that make Android OS use less CPU. I think it's worth trying to figure this out, because if it's a kernel thing then we may have a fairly easy way to increase battery life.

everybodylovesfebs: That's nice but all I changed is my kernel from cf root to hardcore speedmod while on same rom. on cf root I was around 22 & 25% ish for os and system..

Bit dramatic effect..

Looks to be a kernel thing then. I'm guessing that Hardcore has fixed whatever bug was causing high Android OS usage. I might stick with this kernel for a bit and see how things go.

Thanks, just what I needed to hear...can you tell me if flashing to source code kernel above would wipe my data? And whether I can flash back to current kernel if there is a bug out problem?

The kernel is stored in a separate partition in flash memory to the rest of your data, so there's no chance of a wipe due to the flashing process. I've personally used all 3 types of kernel (CF-Root, Ninphetamine and SpeedMod) and have never had any issues with any of them.

If you do find any issues with any of the kernels, it's quite easy to go back to stock. All you need is a stock kernel to flash back to, such as one of the ones from here (look for the stock kernel links, as most links are full firmware packages which may wipe your data). The flashing process with Odin is the same as for a custom kernel.

Thanks... The custom kernels seem to be all about speed...do the governors under clock to 200 mhz while at rest and deep sleep while not used?

Okay firstly I know you can use Titanium backup and restore apps +data.

But is there a less tediuous and faster way to restore all apps to your phone after doing a full wipe ROM?

Any tips/tricks/best practises?

ok tried all the 3 kernels above and none of them work! (poor 3g reception) ... probably because only the kernel was altered but i realised the baseband (it this the modem?) remained at kf2 and andoird version remained at 2.3.3 ... ??

ok trying to find my original chainfire kf2 kernel ... hopefully will be back to before?? (fingers crossed .. here goes)

ok put it this way - my room normally has poor reception ... but on the kf2 chainfire there used to be at least some H or 3G ...

should i be doing something to bring the android to 2.3.4 and the baseband to be higher than kf2 before flashing the above kernels?
