Hi guys,

Hopefully you can give me some ideas. I have a i5503t from Telecom that refuses to connect to gmail or the playstore - just says cannot gain a good connection to the server, or to check network settings and device time.

This happens on both 3G and Wifi. It appears to connect to my wifi (my preferred option) ok (though does drop out easily), but trying to log into my google account, the play store, or youtube results in no connection and an error message. Weirdly it does seem to connect to the Samsung store (or at least to the point where it tells me there is an update - I don't want to apply this however because it'll wipe the device and I currently can't back anything up). Of course I can't be sure if it would go any further without updating it.

Any ideas as to what might be the problem? It's a real pain!

Thanks.

Sounds like it's running a old version of Android (2.1) - head to http://samsung.com/kies, download and install that software and follow the directions to upgrade.

For now - open up the YouTube app, press the menu button (the one with the 4 lines) and sign in, it should work no problems from here, but make sure you update it's software via Kies.

Thanks, will try that when I can (not my phone).

Updating will wipe everything though I assume?

Updating will in most cases wipe the phone, Kies attempts to back up then restore but make sure everything is backed up beforehand.
