Hi all,

Just been given a Samsung Note (GT-i9220) which a Chinese version for Samsung Note.  There is no Google Play & I can't access my contacts, which I saved in Gmail.  Anyone know how to overcome this?  Thanks a lot!

I've installed google apps on some Android phones with Chinese roms before. Generally what I've done is get the phone rooted, download the relevant google apps package, extract the zip on a computer and manually copy the files to /system/app.

I figured this out by accident as there were no custom recoveries available for the devices I did this to, so I was just messing around with different theories I had and managed to get it working.

The method in that link should probably be your first choice as there is a custom recovery image you can use. Otherwise follow my method and post back with how you got on.

bradstewart: I actually read the posts on that link before but I am not 100% confident in flashing to a custom rom.

uglyb0b: I am actually keen to root the phone but I have tried multiples applications but none is able to get my phone rooted.

Thanks for all the replies anyway...
