I have installed OMV on a Raspberry Pi and I can see the files on it using My Files on my phone. However, when I click on a file to view/play it (mp4) My Files wants to first download the file to my phone.

Is there a way to view/play the file without first downloading it?

Have you tried VLC? It supports local network connections, so if it can see you OMV, I assume it would be able to stream from it.
