I have a Galaxy S running Froyo 2.2.1. When a message comes in, a yellow envelope icon appears in the notification bar. When I view the message (in "conversation" mode) by dragging down the note bar and touching the message once, the icon disppears - which is great.

A friend has a Samsung GT-I5800 (Vodafone) running 2.1. (XWJHA). When she drags down the notification bar to look at a message, the icon does not disappear unless she taps the message again and goes to the next screen to see the message in "text" form. Is there any way she can change settings so that the icon disappears like mine does, i.e. when she views it the first time? Perhaps this is a difference between Froyo and Eclair? Have tried googling on this but to no avail.

Grateful for comments.

My Samsung Galaxy S wuld only remove the notification when I went back to the inbox and then to the main screen. If I went to the text from the noticiation bar and then to the main screen the envelope would still be there. I don't have a fix but due to some other issues I now use an SMS notifier.
Interesting that there are others that were having the same problem.
