Yeh I'm of two minds about the whole thing.
The bit that's not sitting right with me is that I enjoyed it because it wasn't a Mercedes winning. That has been so boring for the last few years, just as it was with the Ferrari Schumacher era etc beforehand.
That said though, the racing didn't necessarily make it an enjoyable race.
It will be a better season if there is a bit of competition at the top.
There have obviously been some major revamps of the rules, but I'm not sure they've targeted what really needed to be addressed. They wanted 5seconds a lap faster times, and they haven't got that. However, even if they had achieved this, people weren't saying 'the cars aren't fast enough'. People were saying there's not enough passing, you can't slipstream like you used to, the cars sound yuck compared to the spine tingling V12 days, the move to save the tyres and save fuel leads to racing at the start and end, but a boring progression in the middle, the drivers can't push without overheating in the turbulent air behind and burning up the touchy tyres.
The cars look ok, minus the long sharkfin in the middle and the coathanger additional wings on top, but making them wider doesn't help with the passing, as we saw on this circuit. Hamilton complained (what a surprise) about there being no way to pass when stuck behind the redbull, and he had a good point.
McLaren need to dump that engine. It was a good idea to try the Honda partnership and get exclusive rights to something new, but it's a heap of junk in cars that otherwise have looked pretty competitive in terms of aero and handling.
