I'm looking at potentially switching to 2D due to their current promotion (Credit, Amazon Prime, Gigabit, Router)...

But couple questions :

I use 2Talk for VoIP, CGNAT wont cause any issues with this will it since its client -> server ?

I have a Plex server that is accessed remotely - will this still work via CGNAT ? Seen some people online say yes, others say no.

Someone (correct me if I am wrong) but you can't share your library with others if you are behind CG-NAT but watching form other peoples libraries is fine

I'm not using cgnat (have static ip on 2degrees) but based on my knowledge of the voip setup for 2talk. I can't see any reason why cgnat should cause it any problems.

No, I don't either, but thought Id check anyway :D

Looking like no straightforward way to run Plex behind CGNAT either....  guess I kill remote Plex and in return gain gigabit etc.. :D

Plex "works" behind CG-NAT but won't go direct, it has to go via the Plex Relay servers. It also works horribly as they restrict bandwidth to 2Mbit I believe.

$10/mo you can go static however.

Yeah, I'm on a tight IT budget at home atm, so extra $10 not available :p

Will look at the relay option but otherwise too bad.....

Fun part now is working out best time to cut over.... just paid for BP last night, so if I say around 8th September to 2D, then wont have any overlap in payments......

You can use https://blog.cloudflare.com/tunnel-for-everyone/ for Plex (CGNAT), works much better than Plex Rely servers but comes with some maintenance and configuration overhead (but it's free)

@BlackHand That is a very good point. So I note with Plex there are several options that can be used in conjunction with this (under Settings --> Network):

So basically you're able to specify a Custom Server Access URL which can be via Cloudflare Tunnel and should be pretty quick given 2degrees peers directly to Cloudflare. I'm yet to try this (and don't need to) but would be interesting if anyone behind CG-NAT could give this a go.

@xpd this means you could add "plex.xpd.co.nz" for example and assuming you've got the tunnel set up, and the correct DNS records this should work. Else you could just use the Plex Relay if you're a Plex Pass subscriber.

That’s really useful to know there are free options available for Plex. The 2D rep here on GZ managed to get me 12 months free of a static IP address, so I’ve been able to set up a family member to have access to our Plex library, but once that period is over I’m not sure I’d be keen on paying an extra $120 a year for her to have this access, so will take a look at this closer to the time.

As for 2Talk, we never had an issue with either 2D or previous ISPs when behind CGNAT.

Mr Positive there ;)

I'll give both options a look, and if not suitable, then family will miss out on Plex ;)

Just an update, although Plex server says external access is not available, its is working for my friends (prob via relay) and they said quality has only dropped a little.

So hooray, can leave things as they are for them.

2Talk fine, using Fritzbox to handle it, and using the FritzFon app on my mobile.
