For me the biggest failure or better term is shortfall is the lack of a free trial period. We have seen many services come and go in NZ and some were epic failures so a free trial gives the consumer the chance to taste the wares without an outlay. It also in some ways shows that the provider is confident that their product is a winner, an exception to this is Spark Sport with offers a trial be it a very brief trail, the product is not really fit for market and appears to be a beta release. Even Apple doesn't charge for beta.

This isnt a new product Mike, its been out for years. Its been renamed and has had the missing popups added by way of the channel update. They have highlights for free review, although someone said they aren't working right now, but thats in affect a free trial.

I simply don't trust these releases in NZ we have been all too often dished up rubbish. Sky's history in this is poor at best.

tdgeek: This is not a Kayo thread. If it was we would be talking about Kayo not Sky

Agreed. If you want to stay on Kayo that’s fine. Stay. But stop the comparisons. Kayo is not a NZ service so is not available to the majority of NZers that don’t use DNS and VPN services. My parents or brother wouldn’t use Kayo for that reason but they can get more sky sport content now.

Kirk, as a Sky subscriber, what is the best way fore me to test SkySportNow. Would they track Mac addresses of my devices? I guess I can just join as my wife and another email address and see what happens. I'm keen to trial a one week pass

Hey guys, someone mentioned that SSN might not have pop ups or extra channels if the olympics or similar is on. Has anyone confirmed this with support?

Why can’t you just subscribe with your own email address? Surely they don’t stop anybody from subscribing if they want to. Stopping people from spending money doesn’t make sense.

Not sure you would get the correct answer anyway. I just emailed them to say there is no program information on SS 8. They replied with a link to the TV guide.... where.... you guessed it.... there is no program information available for SS 8.

From their FAQ (https://www.skysportnow.co.nz/faq):

What is the video quality like? Can I watch in HD (High Definition)?

(snip)

HD (1080p) is available where the stream is 8mbps and above. To check out our video quality, go to our website and try the available highlights. You just need to register first but don't have to purchase anything.

FAQ Sky subscribers are not eligible, thats always been the case. Ironically I've been getting Fanpass emails for a couple of years

The FAQ is saying something entirely different:

Do I have to be a SKY customer to access this service?
No you don't. SKY Sport Now is a sport only offering and can be purchased independently of a SKY subscription.

I don't see why they would care, all in all, it's extra money in their pocket.

EDIT: They do reference SKYGO for existing sport subscribers, but again, extra money in pocket, I don't see why they'd care.

Fair enough. I would assume that its just a name ans channel change. Even the FAQ is copy and paste, plus they missed altering something I picked up.

When I had Fanpass the video was 720p and fine but the frame rate wasn't, I need to see that first hand before I commit. Satellite is only 1080i but its very well encoded. I doubt FP has changed in that respect but it may have done since I last had it, which was around 2.5 years ago

Its in the Full FAQ

If I am a SKY SPORT subscriber do I get access to the SKY Sport Now app?

No you will not have access to the SKY Sport Now app. Remember if you're a SKY Sport subscriber you can access SKY Sport 1‐4, ESPN and pop‐up channels on your set‐top box and with SKY GO available on PC/Mac and selected tablets and mobile devices.

To me, that is just stating you don't get access to it bundled with your subscription, not the fact that they won't let you pay for it?
