Holding power button for 5 seconds initiates restart. Waiting for tech to call.

Shadbolt:
I've had the new box and a Sky Pod for 18 months now - forced over from Vodafone TV. I realise that I'm just used to it all now, and everything they do just seems normal. With the most recent box update, which has the Planner improvements, the overnight "shutdowns" have stopped.
As people always say, it lacks a huge amount of refinements, but it no longer annoys me. We have a non-smart flatscreen TV, and using the box for TVNZ+, Disney+, Prime and Plex makes it into a one-stop shop for us.
YMMV
Yep same here. Have become normalised to the environment it provides. In addition getting BBC First on Sky is good. I had reactivated Neon in order to see Jetty now I just realised it is included in Sky entertainment from October apparently so I can stop Neon.
quickymart:
I haven't had Sky for years, in fact I think the decoder I had is long since end-of-life, although it would probably still work with the satellite service.
Looking on their website they seem to have a standard set-top box and the puck thing. But is that it? Is My Sky gone now?
My Sky rocks QM!
siva992: Has anyone tried a 3rd party satellite DVR that accepts Sky's smart card?
Update:
Just realised that the new sky box does not have a smart card.
Just one more reason not to upgrade to the new Sky box. I am using my old box's card with MythTV and DVB-S2 tuners via minisatip to record Sky. There are lots of third party boxes that can use Sky cards - the Videoguard 2 encryption used on the cards is commonly supported by such boxes. But the box I tried many years ago had a dreadful user experience. Using my card with MythTV gives me an excellent way of watching Sky programming.
You can, I believe, still ask Sky for one of the old boxes with a card. Whether they would accept a new customer doing that, I have no idea.

siva992: So I could potentially get a subscription without mysky, and use mythTV to obtain DVR features? 🤯
Yes, and you would find that MythTV is quite superior to any of the DVR boxes I have met. However, MythTV is not available as box you can just buy off the shelf. It runs on a Linux PC, and you would also need to buy a card reader for the Sky card, and as many DVB-T (Freeview) and DVB-S2 (Sky) tuners as you wanted. And as much hard drive space as you want. It is possible to repurpose an old computer for MythTV, as its hardware requirements are not large, except that if you go too old, you would then need an Nvidia card (the cheapest 1030 you can find) in order to do perfect deinterlaced video output. With a more modern CPU, the video output can be handled by the CPU. Usually you will also want to buy an infrared remote control as well, although you can just use a wireless keyboard. So the total hardware cost is significant. If you already have a Linux box, it is possible to just add MythTV to that.

Can't the update be activated at your convenience instead of just barging in while you're watching something?
I wonder this as well with the puck. It's rather annoying to have an update occur when you are viewing a program. A simple solution since it's pretty much on all the time would be the ability to set a time period to install updates when you know you will be slumbering.
Hmm, I've not had that happen with the pod yet. Have generally just turned it on and there's been a notification an update happened but it's never interrupted watching anything. Maybe been lucky with the timing or there might be a setting somewhere to do it in the background.
To Sky TV if you are still following this thread. Sorry for orientation of images below, but...
Why do you insist on showing the program name we are watching in large fonts when we pause the screen?
WE ARE NOT STUPID WE KNOW WHAT WE ARE WATCHING!!!
As per examples it hides information we are trying to see.
This issue has been raised many times before with no response/fix from Sky, thus the capital letters due to my frustration.

Sky TV you could do what YouTube does and display the program but allow the back arrow button to remove the message and other content added to the Window the first time it is pressed.

Just wait for the next big feature. You've paused the video - this is going to be the best time to pop up an ad!

Stop giving them ideas.

TVNZ+ already does that with passive static ads,
I'm expecting the next step would be for them to start extremely short duration video (with audio) ...
