No.

All we know is that its planned, to keep satellite, and to use a puck and a full app. That was strongly hinted a year ago by Fellett, and the new CEO has rolled up his sleeves with Fanpass, with more to come on Fanpass, and criticised Sky for not giving customers what they want, so given the timeframe that has passed, it surely cant be long before we get at least an announcement of intentions.

A lot of Sky channels are H.264 already.  I am surprised that they have not gone completely H.264 by now, but I just checked a couple of recent recordings and National Geographic is still MPEG2.  The changeover to the new decoders was complete months ago and they changed a lot of the SD channels to H.264 then - if there were still old decoders out there, they would not have been able to do that.  So I was expecting that all the SD channels would be H.264 now.

 

MPEG2 was first released in 1995, that's 24 years ago. Just think of that.. Back then Google didn't exist, everyone was on dial up. Talk about Sky being behind the times.

They are 1080i. So you mean 1920x1080i rather than 1440x1080i? When you mention Kodi are you talking about Fanpass??, which was 1280x720p.

Sorry yes 1080i, however until the H.264 switch over the HD channels where running a weird res on the horizontal which reduced the bit rate, now they're at a true 1080i.  I decode my Sky card and use TVheadend to pipe it in to Kodi on my nVidia Shields.

I also measured Prime HD it was 4235 kB/s

Prime HD is only DD two channel as well, have to use pro-logic to get all sound from all Speakers.

All the other HD channels are 5.1 so don't know why stingily  for sound on Prime HD.

Are the SD equiv of all the HD chans which everyone now gets still running on the Satellite? If so I don't get why Sky have not switched them off yet

switched off the satellites? Well, then the reason would be all the tens of thousands of users rurally who would have next to, or just NO TV.
