I just had a terrible surprise in my mail box, my promo deal has just run out so my package of MySky +, Sports, Rugby & HD ticket goes from $59.21 up to $118.61, I've already phoned to say that I want to cancel, they can't take my cancellation today and someone will call me tomorrow.
They have no interest in retaining customers even when I offer to sign up at the discounted rate for another 12 months, so I have to give 28 days notice to cancel and then there's a 3 month stand down, unless I get my flat mate (or wife) to sign up, It's just ridiculous.
I think I'll be doing a whole lot more streaming in the next few months

Why would they a promotional price going for you when the promotion has run its course?

I don't think i can moan after paying half price. Sure if i were paying full price all along that could be justifiable

Why would they (keep) a promotional price going for you when the promotion has run its course?

so they can retain customers, at $60 it's a good value service, at $118 I'm not going to keep my subscription

They would lose money on your subscription keeping it at that price. It was a promotion, it wasn't going to last forever anyway.

I just wish they would provide what myself and many others want, a package that is HD sport and nothing else, I don't care for the news channels, the discovery or ci channels I just want HD sport at a reasonable price. I'd pay $60 for a HD sport package that has SS1,2,3,4, espn1,2 popups & rugby without having to pay for the basic package

But they will lose more money when I cancel, all they're going to get out of me is 1 more month and then nothing.

Another 12 months at $51.21 = $710.52

the 1 month notice before cancellation = $118.61

potential loss = $591.91

and if they make me cancel and we start a new subscription through my flatmate they have to pay for a tech to come out and install, at that point I can tell them I need a new dish because it's going to be installed in my flatmates bedroom, they are not going to make more money by charging more I can guarantee you that

That's on the price level, sure. But they probably pay quite a bit to supply the package you've enjoyed under the reduced price. If you're getting it for $58 per month (or whatever it was) and it actually costs them $100 to provide it...can you see where I'm going?

Yes I fully understand what you're saying, you believe it costs Sky $100 to provide a bunch of channels that I want and a bunch of channels I don't want. Do you understand that I will actually no longer be paying sky anything, not a cent, their business model needs updating, there are so many people changing over to streaming services because it's more cost effective.
It's easy to find HD links to live sport these days and I've been using Sky for the convenience factor of not having to boot up my PC and do a search every time I want to change channels but that convenience in not worth $118/month in my opinion.

It's called Fanpass. Not at the price point you are wanting, but it's the Sport channels (excluding pop ups), without anything else.

Failing that, get a mate who has Sky Sports, and use their Sky Go account.

Why would it cost more to provide? If I was to subscribe today, apart from the hardware cost to install, which they often charge for if not a promo, the cost price for the content to them would still be the same wouldn't it? The more customers they have the more the cost is shared across all those customers. I would have thought that a customer paying a lower amount is better than no paying customer at all.

Yes to all of this, And why does it cost more for the HD ticket, the camera man at the game doesn't charge anymore if he's using a HD camera.

I have no idea how much it actually costs Sky, I was just saying $100 trying to make an illustrative point. Although I still don't see why people get upset when "promotional" pricing finishes and is replaced by the standard pricing; it was going to happen sooner or later. They won't be able to sustain making a loss on your reduced subscription forever.

Here I'll explain why I'm upset so you know for the future.
New subscriber pays ~$60 for what existing customer pays ~$120 for
this just means that every 11 months upset customers like myself disconnect from sky and then in a couple of months we might rejoin for another year at a promotional price.
Why not just get people like myself to sign another 12 month contract at the promotional price, that way they don't have to get grumpy phone calls, send techs out, swap over decoders and have the bad publicity that squeaky wheels like myself share about the internet.
