Simple. Those that say Sky is rubbish is BS. If anyone isn't into watching old movies every night or binge watching old TV series for hours every night, NF is rubbish.

Not everyone has the same tastes. A single person may prefer NF as per above, a family may prefer the easy UI on a wide genre offering.

Id like to ask those that hate Sky, why are you in this thread? You dont have it, you dont like it, the content offering doesnt suit, so why bother even posting?

I own a Honda Euro, I dont spend my evenings baggng Kia/Toyota/[insert car brand here]

Its a bit crazy.

How many people would be in this thread if only everyone that thinks Sky can do no wrong were the only ones commenting?

Those other car brands are not trying to increase your internet costs, threatening court action because they're not happy with numbers of people buying their cars.

Edit: Lot of new TV programs on Netflix, not all old content: Travelers s2, Star Trek Discovery about to continue, Designated Survivor and so on.

I am too. But a little over the anti Sky rant even though they do not have it, do not want it, just hate it etc.

Ive heard people say FTA is rubbish. There is a lot of content on FTA, and OD etc. Ive heard people say NF is rubbish. None the offerings are rubbish, some suit and some dont, its that simple.

I never subscribed to Sky. It costs $1,000 / year and there are a lot of other things I could use that money for.....and every hotel I ever stayed at with Sky showed me most of the content wasn't worth my time, never mind my money. I wouldn't even watch it for free.......

But also, for a long time, it was owned in large part by Rupert Murdoch....a man I consider to be a corrupt criminal, promoting wars through his newspapers and TV channels, to increase sales and viewer ratings.

Giving him money felt like subscribing to a stone cold killer. I couldn't do it.

Even after he sold out of Sky in NZ a few years ago I was still left with the $1000 / year for stuff I wouldn't watch for free.

But I do sub to Netflix. There is a lot of good content on there.....and I can stream it when I want to....

I was a Sky sub from 1990 to 2010 when I moved. My M-in-law took over my Sky account and we are at her place over Xmas. Looked at it the other day. Over 100 channels and nothing to watch. The odd thing that was interesting on the documentary channels I realized when I started to watch them I had seen them this time last year so I'm glad I got rid of it. If I could get a sports only package I may be interested again.

It's interesting to see the usual Sky fan bois here still saying they're the best thing since sliced bread..

One thing that amuses me is how I keep discovering free sources for Sky's high-priced content. Some Arts channel programmes come from ABC (Oz), and I have found National Geographic documentaries on the free Smithsonian channel. There are many other examples of this kind of thing, especially with the film channels and Box and UKTV. Anyone who pays for Jones is simply out of their mind.

Sky won't be going into streaming any time soon.
Also from story customer loss is expected to slow down to 12000 a year.

brokers comment on sky

Sky chief executive John Fellet said then that "now was not the time for a massive conversion of its core business" to a video-on-demand model.

Broker also speculated that Foxtel may be interested in acquiring Sky, if Foxtel lists on Australian stock exchange later in year.

They are stuck with Optus for a couple of years yet, adding SVOD for all channels will add costs as they would then pay for two transmission services, with CDN etc. All they can do right now is slash costs. Centralise to one building for a start and drop the brick and mortar costs as well as the staff. They dont need 10 or 12 or whatever it is locations. meanwhile that that love sport will be happy to soldier on blissfully!

Foxtel seem to manage with satellite, HFC (which is also used by Telstra and the NBN) and a SVoD service (Foxtel Now). And the Foxtel Now app actually works pretty good. I've currently got Fan Pass, and that app is the worst app ever. I get the "Video is not available. please try again later" message at least daily, and live sports jumps back half and hour regularly. Only 5 and a half months to go :(

What's the population of Australia? I've been to many cities that are double or more, NZ population. No economies of scale here, as there is no scale

That article IIRC suggested Foxtel might or could or should take Sky over. Good plan.
