Why are you here? You dont like Sky or sport. There is another thread for Sky bashing. Beats me why anyone who has no interest in a subject/company/etc reads and posts in their threads

When you do your census there may be a question on TV viewing preferences...

Sigh, broken record alert ... only pro-Sky posts permitted on Sky threads, all other views are trolling.

Today's announcement reminds me of all the specials Video Ezzy rolled out in the final stages.

Fast forward to 2020:

1. tdgeek and networkn still posting on GZ as to how wonderful and great value for money Sky is.

2. Sky calls it quits, saying its last two subscribers are no longer sufficient to pay the bills.

3. New Zealand joins the modern world.

I cannot recall any of my posts being pro Sky. I do recall the many posts I have made that correct the misinformation provided by the hate brigade. I have a financial background so I gave numbers to correct the various myths. What you really mean is people who don't hate Sky should not be posting. Or that your mentioning trolling is clearly back to front.

However, there are many Pro Sky people here, go read the Sky Deals thread.

I cant speak for @networkn but from what I recall from his posts he merely corrects the myths (everything for $20 is my personal favourite) and that Sky has value for him. It does for me too, as well as 700,000+ others

Very fair point. Multiroom is dumb. Dumb nowadays at least.. Fellett had an article a number of weeks ago, talking where Sky is going, but no detail, but hints. I recall that one thing he said I took as what you are looking at. The issue is that they cannot just drop prices, as they only make $12 or so per subscriber per month. They need to add value, and what you want is adding value. Sky Go rarely has errors now, has improved res also, and 26 odd channels, instead of what was about 6. That may be what you are looking for, and in development but getting there.

Our much delayed fibre install finally occurred a wee while ago, and we not have fibre to the wall of the house. I also have the approval of the household financial controller (she who must be obeyed!) to connect us to fibre, sign up for some streaming services, and then drop Sky.

Today's announcement is a step in the right direction, and would save me a few bob if I dropped the Entertainment Package, took Movies and thereby got my Soho for free. But won't be enough for them to retain me as a customer. I'm not completely unrealistic and wanting everything for $20 a month, but as far as I can see unless someone is a real NZ sports fan the Sky value proposition still falls short.

By the time I have paid $25/mo for the basic package, paid $20/mo for movies, paid $15/mo for the MySky and paid $10/mo for the HD Ticket I am still spending more than subscribing to multiple streaming services (say top-tier Netflix with a VPN, plus Hulu, plus Lightbox).

And in return for paying more I would still be getting less, in terms of:

picture quality: Sky being only SD or 1080i depending on channel, compared to 1080P and 4K on Netflix etc
less watchability: Sky having ads on many channels and "accelerated flow" interruptions over the credits etc., compared to ad free
flexibility: Sky having linear broadcast with only limited on-demand, compared to everything being on demand
screen options: being limited to one room (unless I spend still more for multiroom, compared to being able to watch on multiple screens (bedroom, living room, spare room etc)
Offer me a package at around $50 (or $60 at the most) that looks like the current basic package, plus movies, plus SoHo, plus Rialto, in HD, and including the MySky cost and I might be interested. Otherwise, nope!

What I bolded is what this price change is all about. The only other user that gets any benefit is those who decide to get Sky Starter, as an ok option for convenient FTA and extra channels they happen to like. I cant see too many of them. Its about getting sport cheaper.

Your last paragraph. What if they released an app that streams all Sky content?

This is ultimately what you're getting for $25 a month when you count out all the channels you can get elsewhere for free (100% legally).

Any Sky executive who thinks that this will help get younger viewers back to their platform, need to get their brain checked. It's more than double the price of Netflix, with commercials.

Yeah nah...on balance I'd still prefer Amazon to swipe the rugby rights and charge ~$10/month to 80 million subscribers worldwide including NZ. The majority of viewers are better off, NZRU probably better off too, people with ratsh** home data reliant on satellite are stuffed oh dear how sad never mind

Right, who will provide the commentary for those games? Who will roll trucks ? Who will do the same for First XV, Mitre 10 and SR games each week? $10 a month? Really? You might want to look at the numbers again, or, at all.

You are dreaming if you think Amazon is going to buy Rugby rights in NZ. Even if they did, it would be a disaster for Rugby in NZ

I found a link to what I posted earlier, that under the new packaging Sky is going to start deleting peoples recordings, when unsubscribe from channel.

Don't know what happens if channel disappears/ pop ups. scroll down page it's the third question

I hope and when they access it means OD, as watching F1 live in NZ is a tough ask. If I watched it live, I also need to pause.

I think there are changes for Sky Sport UK (not Sky here) losing rights, for some races, so this is why. But the SkySportF1 team is really good, that would be a loss

But as far as the topic goes, if its good, Im fine with it. As I use Sky sport (NZ) also for MotoGP, ATP tennis, some rugger, cricket, that stays. I just have an extra cost to pay, which is what fragmentation does. Soccer buffs had that issue with EPL

Yes. At a price point of up to $50 and able to be used on at least two devices, and with the line-up I mentioned in HD, I would be in. Otherwise, no.

Ok, current Basic is 50. Movies say 20. Rialto and Soho free. HD free maybe with a bundle or free for streaming. Maybe 60 is a stretch but its not far away. You wont need the MySky too

NZ Rugby could buy Sky's infrastructure and set up their own channel, like a MUTV type offer - then partner with a Amazon/Google etc to stream the content worldwide. Im probably dreaming.

Heh - to all you folks still addicted to Sky, the helpful people are just trying to wean you off the costly drug.

Much like cigarettes, deep down you know it's costing you money and time and is not really doing you or those around you any good, but the transient pleasure is still worth it and justifiable. And the company has just lowered the price and is selling it in smaller, more kiddie friendly packets to keep you hooked in ;)

Tongue in cheek, yes, but it misses the whole point.

Ive had Sky for years, ditched it 2 years ago as I'm the only one that watches it. Moved house, no dish, fine. But I have Sky back

Im not addicted to Sky, I.m addicted to some key sports, thats the bottom line. Sky just happens to be the conduit I use, as they provide sport. Doesnt bother me if its Sky, Briscoes or Sanitarium, if they provide my sport I am in. I also know that if anyone else provides sport, the high price to me wont go away. As the higb price to watch sport is nothing to do with Sky. I pay a high price which goes to the sports content owners, and Sky just picks up some earnings on the way, and not a lot.

Back in the day, Basic was cool, Movies was cool, Sport was cool. Nowadays, Basic and Movies have been taken over by the likes of NF, LB, etc. naturally people will migrate away. As NF is $15, anything more expensive is percieved as a ripoff, so some move away, and forego their sport addiction. End of the day its only about sport now, and the plan changes that take effect today are based 90% at sport viewers.
