Linux: New Sky box Rain fade again tonight ' no satellite connection ' this is bullocks!!

VodafoneTV was so superior!

Why can't we stream sky channels like VTV?

This is due to the composition of the atmosphere, which is something difficult to change, but not impossible.

However, the discussion of my climate change solution is merely an engineering issue not on this topic.

You can stream sky channels on Sky Go, which is possible either on a computer, or in the iOS/iPadOS or Android phone and tablet apps.

you may be right but i have had more Rain fade on the new box in the 2 weeks  than i did in 6 months with the old box. it would have to be belting down to get rain fade in the past. Now just the threat of rain will make it throw a fit.

In that case, I'd suggest that you tighten up the satellite cable connector, as that can be a loose connector affecting reception.

Can't find manual - could you show a link, please? I can't install a RNZ app to my Panasonic, non-android. It took ages for Panasonic to have new firmware to fix Spark Sport. I'd have to buy a new tv with Android smart ware.

I'd like to uninstall all those apps that I'll never use, they are such bloatware.

When I try to download a streaming app all I get is

Sigh.

The New Sky Box and the Sky Pod are both AndroidTV set top devices.

The New Sky Box is a fully functional Android device for the TV interface,

the Sky Pod is a rebranded Google Chromecast with GoogleTV that has the majority of Sky channels via streaming, apart from TVNZ channels on TVNZ+ app only.

It does not matter in the slightest whether your actual TV is smart or not, as it is not the driving device for the Sky experience, the set top box is.

I would suggest that you may want to familiarise yourself with the included flyer for the first few keywords before you complain about your panasonic TV.

I've just done some tests on the fast forward on the Pod, on some of yesterday's programmes.

The x4 speed is less than x3.

The x64 speed is anywhere from x20 to x30. It's extremely random - even trying it again on the same programme gives different results.

(I have a well functioning gigabit CAT5 connection to the Pod.)

Note: The SkyPod only has 100Mbit maximum speed due to its ethernet adapter, and it tranfers all the data in the action, not like Vodofane TV Set top box did with its small fast forward and rewind windows.

Nevertheless, it's disingenuous for them to label FF speeds that are wildly incorrect.

Anyone know how to provide feedback to Sky on the UX? That doesn’t involve dealing with the call centre? They need to add an app shortcut for TV as opposed to having to browse to it which is painfully slow - yes there is a button on the remove but as an additional option.

My thoughts on the new Sky box:

1. Annoying UI. Losing the “standard remote coloured buttons” means no way to jump forward/back 24hrs in the guide.
2. Broken Series Link. This was occasionally a problem before, but seems more common now: recording every episode in the guide rather than just the selected season (e.g. Try to record the latest season of Gold Rush and get episodes from random other seasons recorded too)
3. Terrible FF/RW in playback. Impossible to accurately seek ahead or back. So many times I’ve rewound a little, only to hit play and watch as the recording pauses, then rapidly fast forwards by 10-15 seconds.
4. Annoying bright lights! In a dark room, when the sky box starts recording, the blue bar below the box is SO bright! Need a way to turn it off.
5. No “jump to time” feature. I’ve seen this mentioned elsewhere, but this is another backward step.
6. Problem during initial setup: not compatible with LG TV HDMI HDR mode?
7. Nice small form factor
8. As a user of Sky Go, it’s nice that the new box is more closely linked, but why not just give us a Smart TV version of the Sky Go app, too?
9. Record to Cloud would have been a nice option so I can watch my recordings via Sky Go.

More to come I’m sure. Change is hard, but I would’ve thought someone would’ve made sure that the new box could at least do what the old box could do… and then had some nice new additions.

Hopefully some firmware updates will help, but it can’t bring back buttons missing from the remote!

There is a lot more that needs fixing, can not remove or flag continue watching content and no Trailor watching etc., from the other STB around the world and streaming services Sky is well behind

The WiFi speed is not constrained to 100MB/s though, so I've decided to put my new Sky Box on WiFi only.

So far, it has been pretty good, and certainly not the disaster that various doom and gloom people have pronounced it as here.

However, the true test has been getting my darling wife to figure out how to use it without my instructions, and that passed the test of user friendliness without stern words been said !

You can get to the TV directly from the left navigation on the hub, or even just use the TV guide for the current time.

the Sky Pod is a rebranded Google Chromecast with GoogleTV  . . .

That's like calling a Nissan leaf a "rebranded" Tesla.
In reality . . . Different hardware, and very different versions of the software.

I would suggest you obviously don't understand the definition of the word to provide the context you think you did.

However, I accept that not everyone would be capable of studying a few languages at university, so perhaps you have a typical monolingual issue with vocabulary ?

Regardless, in the context of computers and internet devices; "rebranding" refers to rebadging the hardware, firmware, and default apps on a computer or device from the default at the OEM level.

Or to continue your example, the original Tesla roadsters were rebranded Renault chassis cars with batteries and electric motors.
