Tongue in cheek, yes, but it misses the whole point

Im not addicted to Sky, I.m addicted to some key sports, thats the bottom line. Sky just happens to be the conduit I use, as they provide sport. bother me if its Sky, Briscoes or Sanitarium

That reenforces my point that sport is the nicotene and Sky is the dirty vehicle which includes a whole lot of unnecessary tar and additives (ads and promos) and is in fact still ripping you off - albeit slightly less so - as the alternatives such as direct streaming from the sports themselves (vaping) are increasingly available.

I love my sport too, but have no love for the old crusty peddler :)

This opinion piece from Kate Hawkesbury in the Herald sums it up pretty well - link here

For those who don't have time to read it, basically it says that it is not all about price, it's also about customer service, and Sky customers are growing tired of a company that continues to treat its existing customers with contempt.

Just saw that- also interesting how she comments on Vodafone's typical crap customer service- transferred to three different people and yet no one could answer her question. Pretty poor really.

The nicotine is sport not Sky, and Sky arent ripping you off, thats been explained over and over. My idea was to seperate Basic and Sport, to get a cheap as chips basic and price sport as the real price. End of the day I will still pay the same. It just comes down to playing with numbers to reduce churn. If Amazon took over Sky Sport they will become the dirty on e as they will charge me the same price

Thats is really bizarre. It reads like a Mike Hoskings rant, funny that!  :-)

I get emails from Sky, yes I should have one today, but as it hit the news I should have had one yesterday, so a fail, agreed. That has caused customers to call in, so given my experience of Sky emails I'm a bit surprised about that. Thats one issue that seemingly requires an opinion piece?

She should have focussed less on a Hoskings rant and more on the facts, which are:

Skys call centre provides excellent service, based on the times I have called them

They failed to email customers yesterday

Its a good move with the plans but it still doesnt make Basic a value proposition, NF etc are better

To compare Skys overall offerings to NF, LB is just stupid. Everyone knows sport is key, NF, LB etc dont provide that

True, Sky did confirm that what Voda charges is up to them, later Voda released that they will get the same offer. Like Sky, Voda should have got this out there pronto

Yes, that's what I wrote.

They not ripping me off, I agree, because I don't chose to inhale. I've had many people say cigarettes aren't a rip off either, so value is only ever a proposition.

Still, as smoking / subscription rates fall, shareholders do expect a reaction.

Its easy isn't it?

All they have to do is charge per channel!

Channel pricing will vary by channel popularity. And one day per month they open up all channels as a test and enticement to viewers to try a new channel to see if it appeals. Over time people will add additional channels to their pool.

Unpopular channels will be removed, and the bandwidth used to upgrade SD to HD.

And for goodness sake, stop with all the unnecessary adverts!

Lack of HD and all those adverts was the reason I left Sky two years ago.... and that was absolutely the right move for me.

Still is!

why do people knock Sky for charging for HD yet give Netflix a free pass for doing the same thing.

Amazon doesn't charge extra for HD.

Then get an Amazon Sub and stop complaining about a service you don't want/need.

There are adults trying to have a serious conversation in this thread and a few people who hijack every thread with the tired (and entirely wrong) old cliches.

I've had an Amazon sub for years and in HD.  I know you're one of the Sky choir boys here so cut the hijack bit.

No issue whatsoever with paying for watching sport - Better those that watch it do so rather than taxpayer subsidised, in my view (although there are wider societal benefits and to the codes themselves the more available and watched their sport is).

What I like to see is the emergence of more responsive, better value platforms for watching sport. Like Telecom, Sky enjoyed gouging profits as a monopoly for far too long in a weakly regulated and uncompetitive environment. In response to better technologies they dragged the chain and sought regulatory relief and are only now trying to get on the departing train, recognising that sport is the last remaining golden goose in the chook house.

I have no sympathy, only schadenfreude, that their comeuppance has arrived.

But, to individuals still willing to throw 'em your hard earned, go for it.

EDIT: no conflicts to declare, not a shareholder to Sky or direct competitor.

Interesting.. I just got off the phone with Vodafone manila call centre as we told Voda will only be offering the basic $49.91 package and not splitting it like Sky.

I'm out of contract with Sky, but in a new fibre contract with vodafone. Tempted to bin sky with voda and sign up with my flatmates name direct to sky as a new customer

Has any one managed to get through to cancel entertainment?

Guessing they'll probably have most of their customers all trying to ring them at once?

Last night it had account log ins not available until 8am today, now it's gone to 12pm today so looks like software changes taking longer then expected.

Discovery etc is about to find out how many people prepared to pay, when don't have to have it for Sports etc.

In my opinion you should be able to take packages off in an automated way, same as you can with adding, but Sky forces talking to someone or sending email.

I got through to Sky as above before Vodafone. I asked how is it I can ring sky and add soho or beinsports but you cannot remove parts..? Oh you have to do cancellations through Vodafone only as your bill comes from them..

Anyways Vodafone are not offering the starter and entertainment split as far as Ive been told today :(

I definitely read in an article that Voda stated that they will be doing the split plans, no mention of the $10 subsidy. Had a look for the article , cant find it but another stated what you posted here
