Given i only have Sky still because of Sport im tempted to cancel at the end of the Super Rugby Season, I wonder if there is any value in complaining to the rights providers eg NZRU or otherwise as its their content being provided in such a poor environment.
Surely Sky TV has SLA's for delivering the content to consumers

That would seem an odd decision given you have Rugby Championship, Bledisloe and the RWC this year.

Even more reason that the RFU should care.

I cant imagine im the only one out there wondering if other "overseas" services can actually provide a better level of service for cheaper

Sky needs a viable competitor👍

But, having all the sports on one provider makes life a lot simpler.

Loving my new MySky, old box, A tech came to install on Saturday and it's a newer/smaller box than the one I sent back. Yesterday another tech installer rang to confirm they were coming to install an old MySky box. Seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right hand's doing!! No surprises there.

My home theatre sub woofer started humming after the sky box was installed and after an hour playing around found the cable at the back of the amp had been pulled out. Nice easy fix but should have checked that first!

New SkyBox annoyance no. 4

Short recordings.

View recorded episode

Expected: recorded from before start to after end

Actual: some series are missing lots off end

A particular offender is Great British Bakeoff. The coverage switches to lotto and returns, and the recording ends about 10 minutes short of the end of the episode.

This one is not Sky's fault - it is just how the EPG data works.  In the EPG data, the first and second parts of the programme, and the intervening Lotto programme, are all separate programmes and you need to set the box to record both parts separately.  The first part will likely have the title as "Great British Bakeoff" and the second part "Great British Bakeoff continued" (or something similar).

Which seems to sometimes work
I have had to watch the ending on TVNZ+ twice so far

Series link issues like these described above exist with the MySky box too. I think it is a Sky problem, not New Box specific...

Another example, I went on the website to remote record the upcoming Joanna Lumley India series. The first episode cannot be series linked. Series link starts with the second episode. All episodes have the same programme naming. Go figure!

Edit: Sorry, I quoted the wrong post here, but the issues are related.

NZ Rugby have a contract with Sky that has a number of Years to run,

I imagine the NZ Rugby will be looking to offer extras to start with (exclusive interviews, archive game etc,) and then look to use this platform to get a better deal out of Sky next time round....

Oh, good point, thanks. Long story...

(I had seen the short recording problem with a single time slot too, but it was "Great British Bakeoff" that annoyed me when I was posting. So now talking about a different problem than I initially described with early end time.)

I think the old Skybox automatically recorded both parts of the episode.

I tried deleting everything, and got into a state where Skybox was a bit confused about whether there was a series link, so may be in bogus historical state now even after a reboot... So take the following with a grain of salt.

I have set up a series link on the first part again. The TV view shows the second part as going to be recorded too, so I can't separately select it for recording.

The Planner shows the first part of episode as a Series Link, but does not show the second part either in the Schedule, or in "View More" > "Upcoming on TV".

So mixed feedback and I am unclear if the continuation will record. Find out in a week!

End of 2025 i believe so in the meantime they can enable it for fan activity and things like that but id say they should be well ready by then to deliver their own content. Will be interesting to see anyway.

Interestingly, I called Sky yesterday to cancel sport as the football has all finished and I don't really need it.

Didn't have to wait long at all for the call to be answered and the very pleasant man in whatever country he was in tried to sell me everything - other channels, discounted sport, all manner of things...but not once did he mention the new box.
Thought that was quite telling. Surely it'd be on my account that I am eligible for the discounted box and that deal is expiring soon.
I would've said no thanks anyway - based on this thread I just don't want to go there.

I have a theory about series link on the new Skybox.

Based on nothing else except my recording experiences, I think it when you select series link it just looks up the EPG for the next time the program is scheduled to play. Maybe when it records that one it then looks up EPG again for the next time because the skybox can only see the EPG a week or so ahead. And maybe its linking to the actual ‘name’ of the program, nothing more sophisticated. That would explain why:

  1. Fair-Go recorded on Monday, then +1 on Monday and the replay on Tuesday, and the +1 replay on Tuesday and the replay on Wednesday and…you get the picture, 6 recordings that week of the same episode of the same name.
  2. The S.O. was angry that MasterChef stopped recording last month and had to set it up again last week. So now we have a series called Masterchef and another called MasterChef. Spot the difference? Same series but someone made a typo…(I’m not blaming Sky for that)
  3. And someone on this forum earlier complained that F1 (or something) recorded practice session 1 but not session 2. Different names right?

It couldn’t be that basic could it? Seems to me there can’t be much else in the search logic, and there is no fancy lookup series-link database being maintained by someone in the cloud somewhere, its just built into the app on the skybox itself and just does it locally. Maybe the sky box only knows what it can see in the EPG, maybe the program times next week are provisional but when it comes to present time, it doesn’t check or update from the EPG so only half the program records etc etc..

I acknowledge this all might be utter rubbish, so if someone actually knows how it works, please correct me, as it might help how we manage future series-linking. It would be good to know if series linking the Crusaders vs Blues Super Rugby game will record all the rugby games this weekend or just next years final!

Makes sense. I dont have these "new and improved" boxes just the MySkyHD1 and yes f1, I just series link the FP1, Quali and the Race. So i do get FP2 and 3 as normal but also a host of other stuff F1 related as well. Golf I series link LPGA and PGA, now it also adds Senior PGA and DP World Tour both of which I didn't series link

What ever was the cheapest way to do it will be the Sky way.

I was interested in acquiring the new Sky box until I read the postings on this forum.

Geek Zone is brilliant for finding the truth about tech issues with all the different angles and experiences people have had!

The final nail in persuading me not to order one was finding that not only would I have to fork out $150 (special offer) to receive a box but that:

(a) I would not actually own the box after paying for it.

(b) I would still have to pay $15 per month for the ability to record programs, use live pause etc.

I assumed that if you paid for the box, then there would be no more monthly My Sky fee, thus saving me quite a lot of money in future years.

So, it's a bit of a scam really - paying quite a large fee which you don't have to for the old My Sky box and still paying the same monthly fee to make it functional.

Plus then having all the problems that come with the new box outlined in nightmarish detail on this forum.

It's like a city bus pulling up at your stop with a flash attractive new paint job. But on boarding you're told you have to pay a $150 share towards buying the bus on top of the regular fare. And when you get on board you find that the driver is drunk and veering all over the road and misses most of the stops along the way. While the previously comfortable seats have been replaced with cramped legroom. And meanwhile the bus company's ads are everywhere insisting this is an improved service!

Even after an update the sky box still shuts down makes a squeak sound and reboots after you try open Netflix or another App, has anyone had this issue?
