hey there! Im nerw to the website so hi everyone! basically it has come to the time where i need a new phone and I am after a nokia 5800. I have seen them at parallel imported so is this a good place to buy? Also the other thing is i wont be using it until Telecom XT starts because that is what i want to use it for. Can you connect the Nokia 5800 to telecom XT? From what i gathered i dont see why not, but i dont wanto to spend all that money on a phone and find out i cant do it. Cheers for your help!

If the version they sell is the American/Brazil Model 5800-2, then yes it will work as that is a 850/1900 handset. If it is a Model 5800-1 then no it wont since that is 900/2100

Looking at their website they have just pasted the specs from Nokia so it's best to pop in and have a look, the side of the box will have which model it is.

oh ok. I have checked with another where you can buy them from in New Zealand and it said this:

General 2G Network GSM 850 /D 900 / 1800 / 1900

3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100

HSDPA 850 / 1900 - American version

I am not sure how to interpret it, but from what it says there would it definately work?

HSDPA 850/1900 means it will work on Telecom's new XT Network, but won't work if you go to some other countries that use 2100MHz - like everywhere but the U.S.

Yes they don't specifically state which model they are selling, they have just listed the specs with both variants. There are 2 models.

The 5800-2 which is a 850/1900 will work on our (Telecom) XT network

The 5800-1 which is a 900/2100 will only work on Vodafone

Yes - and the 5800-2 will be pretty much useless for roaming except to the U.S. because 1900MHz is not used anywhere else in the world.

All devices we bring out will be 850 UMTS capable, most will also have the 2100 band.

I assume the NZ new one you are selling is the 5800-1, won't work (practically) on the XT Network

Hi - good question. I checked the label on the box & it's label designation is "Nokia 5800d-1". I don't know what the 'd' means...?

Yea from what i gather that would only be useful on vodafone. The one that I need to go in XT is the 5800-2 as it has a UTMS of 850/1900. pretty sure yours is 900/2100 in which case it would be useless really.

Hmmm just browsing from what I see the N85 (i think) does 850/900/1900/2100....and its quite an attratcive looking device...it sucks how there is always more than one that you like!

that will be the GSM frequencies. but i think the n85, in a similar fashion, has a version with the 850UTMS frequency. Itl be the same situation though where u will have to import one of that version.

yea i jsut checked that. the usa version does 850/1900/2100 which would be perfect. I have a friend coming over from hong kong next month. Rekon he could get me that version cheaper over there?

As others have already said,you need the UMTS 850/1900 version. I bought one over the net last week from Mobicity.com.au. They're based in Brisbane and call this the Nokia 5800 Tube NextG.

So how much in total did it cost you to get the phone and get it over here? Did you buy it for XT? Parallel imported have them for 729 but not sure if they have the American version as they just list all of them
