Has anyone had their P9 start smoking on them?

Today I got home from shopping, plugged in my phone, turned away to the tv and started to smell something.

My P9 had smoke coming from the usb port on the phone and it was very very warm. I unplugged it and the phone which was half charged before I plugged it in, turned around and said battery empty turning off.

The port itself (USB type c) the pin in the phone had melted partially, and the cable also had scorch marks inside it.

Btw was on the genuine charger and cable.

Retailer is sending it away to Telegistics, said they hadn't seen it before but I was disappointed they weren't alarmed at the fact it was hot and smoking...

I have a P9 plus and my brother has a P9, neither of us have had this happen with our phones using the genuine cables and chargers they came with.

This sounds like a cable fault to me since fast charging does draw a fair bit of current.

Thank god it was the genuine charger and cable then.

Rang Huawei direct today, they were alarmed and surprised. But unfortunately had to go through spark. Rang Spark and the overseas helpdesk was alarmed and surprised but said had to ring the store. Rang the store, said how there was a lack of caring, just like the guy was reading the script. The lady on the phone pulled a classic trick, except very sarcastically, 'Well what would you like me to do' ( I work in customer service and know that this is a easy get out of jail free card)

Not impressed. Don't want the phone back, heck maybe if I hadn't been in the room it could have caught alight. Going to ring Spark again tomorrow.

Interesting, cable would be my first pick here..

Wonder if the genuine cable was on the cheap?

Feedback isn't too delightful, i do apologies for that experience..

Can't say I'm able to assist with mobile replacements, very left field for me. I'll see if i can't get my hands on a internal contact to look over things if you want though..

I appreciate that, even though it wasn't even your area to apologise for but still means something :)

That would be greatly appreciated hio77, honestly, even the fact you're going to try means a lot after the store :)
