I guessing that the answer is more along the line of "there is nothing else available in the NZ market that even comes close to a Tivo"
Remember that Australian TiVo owners were offered a discounted fetch box if they traded in their TiVo. This may well have taken quite a number out of circulation.
sweet308: Judging from what I've seen here on GZ, other NZ modders' backlogs when they have happened have generally been caused by delays getting materials such as PROMs rather than workload.
How many active modders are there in Oz? I can think of 7 in NZ off the top of my head
On the units I have modded I used new PROMS on the first 5 and have socketed 9. I am now using re-programmed PROMS and am considering soldering these directly to the board as I am unaware of the need to replace them in the future.
(I suppose I could be considered as a semi active modder)
Many thanks to you guys and in particular to Spong for keeping my Tivo box operational .Could someone please explain in laymans terms who is now providing the EPG and how are they being recompensed for their work . As I see it Tivo ceased working because there was no longer a EPG provided by Tivo

OzTivo (the group) have been around since around 2001 when individuals started importing the Series1 Tivo from the USA. Back in those days, the series 1 needed a separate set top tuner box feeding the Tivo and channel changes were made with IR codes sent to that box. OzTivo setup an EPG for Aussie and NZ users back then. There are still a few series 1 Tivos getting their guide from the old OzTivo server, but most have moved on to the series 3 where the EPG was supplied from Hybrid until 30th October. Many of the original OzTivo members worked on the back ends and modifications needed for the series 3, and despite a certain news article, there are some cleaver and dedicated Kiwis as well as Aussies behind much of what's happening. This is a community supported effort and I don't think anyone's expecting payment. A few have offered to help support the cause, so if you're a robust programmer with python, database with good linux skills, you maybe helpful to the cause. I'm sure this will thrive for many years to come. The Tivo is well engineered and issues like failing hard disks and crumbling rubber feet are easy to fix. I guess broadcast TV will end one day, but until then, the Tivo still does it better than most.

I've got one waiting to be upgraded as soon as the eproms arrive.
I'm actually quite enjoying doing the upgrades, and the time i've been taking to do each one has drastically reduced to about 45 mins for a eprom change.
