Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I wouldn't think so. Maybe someone should ask them the question, whether they plan to end the EPG service. But if that was the case then I would think they would join up with another company to offer an alternative solution. But there are probably no systems that are as good , and can do everything the tivo does, without some form of paid subscription.

I did suggest maybe an update to open the use of Freeview EPG, but the answer was no.
If that is the case, then they must be going to continue to support it. Maybe Tivo US will take over, as these outages are not a good look for the brand.
Happy to report I can finally connect and get the EPG.
Jaxson: TiVo as a brand doesn't exist in NZ anymore. It hasn't since Telecom fluffed the introduction and Noel Leeming cleared the last remaining stock.
The EPG did last a lifetime, that ends when it dies.
The missing piece of information is what the terms of engagement are with the company that is currently supplying us the EPG data. How long are they contracted for?
Guess that piece of the puzzle is now answered. I suspect they've kept this going long enough to avoid CGA refund claims if it was pulled prematurely.
The alternative problem we now face is that it's still a closed system belonging to TIVO overseas, so we can't easily re route the device to point to a different server, even if someone was kind enough to serve compatible content out.
Yes I got may email today. Sad but predictable. Wonder if it will still work as a tuner??

Yes it should still work as a tuner, it just won't be able to tell you what you're watching.
Probably not much point with an EPG

Go buy a new device I guess.
What happens with Home Networking ?
Will this continue to operate - I think it needs the TiVo central server to validate.
Should most likely move this discussion to here now TiVo Service ending on 31 October 2017
