So I plan to use my new camping stove at the beach on Christmas. It's one of these jobbies http://www.kathmandu.co.nz/camping/kitchen/gas/gasmate-3-burner-deluxe-yellow.html

It doesn't come with a regulator, only a hose fitting for a 3/8 BSP LH connection. Because of this I merrily went and bought a 2kg bottle from the warehouse.

Now I can only assume this bottle is filled with nitrogen as harking back to my gas station attendant days, new bottles had to purged of nitrogen first and weren't actually filled with LPG due to shipping restrictions.
This brings me to now, where I've discovered it's almost impossible to find a place that fills 2kg bottles!

Question 1) Anyone know anywhere on the shore that fills 2kg bottles?
Question 2) If not, can I just buy an adapter to fit my BBQ's 9kg bottle? Or do I need a regulator as well because the pressures are higher in a 9kg than a 2kg (I would have thought they would be the same)?

I can't help with where to get a 2kg bottle filled, but the adapter you're looking for is normally a POL - 3/8 fitting, I believe these sell for about $12-20 depending on where you look. http://www.kathmandu.co.nz/camping/kitchen/gas/gasmate-pol-comp-gm004.html

The cooker shouldn't require a regulator as they are designed for high pressure.

That stove has a valve in the hose at the stove end. This regulates (or reduces) the pressure to some extent.

I will my 3x (or is it 4x) camping cylinders at Caltex Highland Park (East Auckland). They have the adapters to fill those, but often loose a fair bit (which you don't pay for) as they are not used to using them. You also want to check what they do with the hose so that it does not have too much effect on the scale.

Cylinder testing companies usually also fill them, but good luck finding one that is open now.

Small cylinders should be at the same pressure as large ones, which is the pressure at which the gas turns to liquid.

You can never have enough Volvos!

The Caltex on Beach Rd, Browns Bay used to fill them, I am not sure if they still do. The Caltex on Constellation Drive do fill, but I have not taken a smaller cylinder there, so not sure if they do those.

Look at caltex for filling. And GAS stations

There is a place out near Kelton we had some customers say they used. But in general everywhere has gone to swaps now since it doesn't require trained staff who need to be paid more and are died up for a long time filling instead of selling expensive coke pies and coffee at the counter.

you could also check out your local NZIG (NZ Industrial Gases) aswell they'll also fill it for you

Thanks guys. Cause of the short notice we'll just use an adapter for the 9kg bottle and figure out filling the 2kg'er at a later stage.

Many filling stations list where you can get LPG filled. Google "LPG filling". There is also the LPG Association: http://www.lpga.co.nz/aboutUsSuppliers.php

They fill all sorts of bottles, from the small camp bottles, to the 45kg(?) home LPG bottles.
